West Michigan ThunderHawks Take Division Lead

April 5, 2010 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
West Michigan Thunderhawks News Release

Grand Rapids, Michigan - The West Michigan ThunderHawks have risen to new heights in the early going of the 2010 Indoor Football League season. Initially concerned only with unpacking their belongings in their new DeltaPlex Arena home, the team's focus has now shifted to putting everything in its proper place.

When ThunderHawks players and coaches woke up on Easter morning, they looked around and liked what they saw: A bunch of empty boxes and a season full of potential. Not only have they survived the move from Muskegon to Grand Rapids, they have flown right to the top of the Atlantic East Division standings.

Off to their first 3-0 start in franchise history, the ThunderHawks are the last undefeated team in the United Conference and one of only two remaining unbeatens in the 25-team IFL. West Michigan has won all three games versus division foes. The 'Hawks opened the campaign with a solid 52-36 win over Maryland (0-3) and then earned back-to-back, come-from-behind victories over Rochester (2-2) by scores of 59-55 and 57-51.

The only remaining team in the Atlantic East is Richmond (3-1) and they are squarely in the ThunderHawks' sights. The two teams will meet on Saturday, April 10th at the Revolution's Arthur Ashe Athletic Center in Richmond, Virginia. It will be the first road test of the season for the ThunderHawks who play seven of their first 10 games at home before playing their final four contests abroad.

The Revolution had gotten off to a perfect start in 2010 with three wins in as many tries before dropping a 33-29 decision to Rochester in the Raiders' first home game of the season on Saturday night. Kicker Adam Lanctot led the hosts with four field goals as neither team could find offensive traction at the Fair & Expo Center's Dome Arena in Rochester, New York.

Saturday night's clash will be the first ever between West Michigan and Richmond. The ThunderHawks played two seasons in the Continental Indoor Football League before joining the IFL last season. All three years were played under the Muskegon Thunder banner before the franchise relocated to Grand Rapids and renamed the team in November 2009. Richmond, owned by SportsQuest, is in its inaugural year of operation.

Tickets for the Atlantic East showdown, starting at $10, can be obtained by calling 804-595-8437 or online at www.etix.com.
