West Michigan Thunderhawks News Release

Grand Rapids, Michigan - The West Michigan ThunderHawks of the Indoor Football League have bolstered their coaching staff for the upcoming 2010 season with the addition of Stan Davis as a team consultant. Davis will assist head coach Rod Miller in the areas of defense, recruiting and player advancement.

Davis spent the last two seasons as the defensive coordinator of the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgs, turning one of the af2's worst units into the league's second-best, ranking in the top three in every defensive category.

Defense has always been Davis' calling card and his two-year stint with the AFL's Grand Rapids Rampage in 2005 and 2006 cemented his reputation as a big play-making architect. The Rampage set single season franchise marks in interceptions (20), sacks (19), takeaways (33) and forced fumbles (13) during Davis' watch. In 2006, Davis' charges led the AFL in fewest passing yards allowed per game (243.1) and held opponents to less than 275 total yards per game.

Prior to the Rampage, Davis established a top-ranked defense for the AFL's Las Vegas Gladiators from 2003-05. The 2004 Gladiators finished first in passing defense (217.0) and second in total defense (243.1) while leading the AFL in turnovers forced (34) and ranking second in interceptions (20). That team was the only team in AFL history to have three different players with at least 5 interceptions each.

Davis began his indoor coaching career with the expansion Chicago Rush (AFL) in 2001 as their Defensive Backs/Receivers Coach and Director of Player Personnel. Davis spent three years in the Windy City, leading the league in interceptions over that span.

Davis has also worked with the NFL's Cincinnati Bengals and the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe, giving him a resumé that has reached the highest levels of indoor and outdoor professional football. Davis' expansive list of NFL contacts and personal recommen-dations have helped players like Antonio Chatman (Packers), Rashied Davis (Bears), Derek Lee (Bears), Donovan Morgan (Texans) and Marlion Jackson (Falcons) secure NFL contracts after playing in the AFL.

Davis played collegiately at Long Beach State University, earning four letters as a defensive back. The Joplin, Missouri native has appeared in numerous commercials, television programs and motion pictures including: Fast Times at Ridgemont High (playing Jefferson's brother, 1982), Leon the Pig Farmer (Gutterman, 1992) and CHiPs (one episode, 1981).
