West, Holliman Lead Goldeyes to 6-1 Win

WINNIPEG, MB, CANADA - Kevin West smacked three doubles and drove in three while Mark Holliman scattered four hits and one run over seven innings to lead the Goldeyes past the JackHammers 6-1 Wednesday night at Canwest Park.

Winnipeg (5-2) plated four runs in the second off Bear Bay (0-2), who made his first start against his former club. Luis Alen put the Goldeyes up 2-0 with a double and Wes Long followed with an RBI groundout. Aharon Eggleston and West continued the scoring with a single and double respectively, putting Winnipeg up 5-0.

Joliet (2-4) got on the board in the third after Jonathan Wyatt doubled with two away. Ryan Basham slapped a single up the middle to plate Wyatt to make it a 5-1 game.

Holliman (2-0) baffled the Joliet hitters, retiring the final 13 hitters he faced. The right-hander finished with eight strikeouts in his seven innings of work.

Bay, not to be outdone, set down the final 12 batters he faced. The former Goldeye worked six frames allowing five early runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

The Goldeyes added single tallies in the first and seventh innings. West knocked home his first run with a double in the first and was at it again with another double in the seventh, plating Eggleston for the 6-1 final.

Wyatt and Basham combined for four of the six Joliet hits with Kevin Rios and Freddie Thon collecting the other two.

The JackHammers and Goldeyes conclude their four game series tomorrow morning in Winnipeg. Joliet will send Devin Anderson (0-0) to the bump as the JackHammers look to split the series. Winnipeg will counter with Chris Salamida (1-0). The early first pitch is set for 11:00 a.m. with a 10:50 a.m. pre-game show on 1340 WJOL.

Loose Gravel:

- Freddie Thon extended his hitting streak to six games with a double in the ninth while Brad Correll saw his five game streak come to an end with an 0-3 night.

- Wyatt is now 7-12 in the series with four RBI and three stolen bases.

- Griffin Bailey worked a scoreless eighth inning.
