LOVES PARK, Ill. - Kyle Wright still hasn't walked a batter this season.
The Rockford right-hander went seven innings without a free pass on Wednesday as the RiverHawks beat the Gary SouthShore RailCats, 5-4, at Road Ranger Stadium. Wright (2-0), who combined with the bullpen on a five-hit effort, struck out three.
No. 9 hitter David Cooper was perfect at the plate. He drove in the go-ahead run in the third inning and scored an insurance run in the seventh.
The RiverHawks broke a scoreless tie with a two-run third inning and led the rest of the night. With one out in the third, Jono Brooks lined a single off the hand of Gary starter Brandon Magee (0-2). Brooks stole second and scored on Cooper's single to left field. With two outs, Cooper scored from first on Rich Austin's hit-and-run single.
Wright was perfect until Mike Rohde's one-out home run to right field in the fourth inning. He scattered two runs on seven hits. Wright has pitched 13 innings without a walk this season.
Rockford closer Scott Roehl pitched a perfect ninth inning for his third save.
