Wenatchee Wild News Release
WENATCHEE, Wash. - The Wenatchee Wild went over three weeks without playing a game. Such a long break would have hurt many good teams. Wenatchee, however, didn't miss a beat, defeating division rival Alaska on Saturday night, 6-1. It was the Wild's fourth straight win over the Avalanche.
It took just over two minutes for the Wild to score its first goal, a redirect by Nathan Sliwinski (Castle Rock, Col.) from Adam McKenzie (Petaluma, Calif.) and Christian Hilbrich (Clarendon Hill, Ill.) on the power play. The score remained 1-0 until midway through the second period when Nolan Youngmun's (Anchorage, Alaska) one-timer from Andrew Christ (Spokane, Wash.) and Alex McLean (Duluth, Minn.) beat Alaska netminder Kale Robertson.
Jeff Jubinville (Edmonton, AB) gave the Wild a commanding 3-0 lead less than two minutes into the third period on a tremendous individual effort. Streaking down the left wing after receiving a pass from Dajon Mingo (Canton, Mich.), Jubinville faked a slap shot before launching a top shelf wrister from just inside the faceoff circle. It was Juvinville's 14th goal of the season and his 30th point.
Beau Walker put Alaska on the scoreboard about a minute after Jubinville's goal to make it 3-1. The rest of the game belonged to Wenatchee, however, which got unanswered goals from Youngmun, Armand Deswardt (Dallas, Texas) and McKenzie down the stretch.
Youngmun had two goals on the night while McKenzie, McLean, Christ and Hilbrich had two-point games. Brendan Jensen (El Granada, Calif.) was the winner. He stopped 16-of-17 shots and improved to 4-0-1 with the Wild. Robertson made 39 saves on 45 shots. Wenatchee was 1-for-3 on the man-advantage while Alaska was 0-for-5.
The Wild will try to sweep the Avalanche tomorrow night. Faceoff is slated for 5:05 p.m.
