Wenatchee Wild Falls to Fairbanks

The Fairbanks Ice Dogs found themselves on the Wenatchee Wild's home ice in Town Toyota Center tonight to start off a two game series. With a 4-1 final for the Ice Dogs, the fire has been lit and things are starting to heat up in this already burning rivalry. Currently, Wenatchee has a 3-6-2 record but they do have the highest average attendance of all the teams in the NAHL at 2,936. They are ranked 3rd for overall attendance with 14,684 loyal fans supporting the organization. Forwards Jake Ahlgren and David Powlowski lead the team in points with eight a piece.

There was no scoring in the first period.

Fairbanks struck first blood two minutes and four seconds into the second period with a power play goal from Ice Dogs forward Ethan Somoza. The assist on this goal went to Hans Gorowsky. The Ice Dogs put up two more goals in this period, the first coming from Jacob Hetz when he lit the lamp at 5:19 with help from Chandler Madry. Exactly 10 minutes later, Madry scored his own goal on a power play with an assist for John Teets to end the intense middle frame.

David Powlowski put Wenatchee on the board 1:41 into the third period with help from defenseman Tyler Rockwell. The last goal of the game, however, was scored at the 7:53 mark by Ryner Gorowsky and Ethan Somoza picked up his second point of the night with the assist.

Wenatchee led with shots on goal all three periods with 41 total (14,9,18) while Fairbanks trailed closely behind with 32 (8,19,5). The Wild only took four penalties during this game but infractions went to Jake Ahlgren (Tripping), Fetkovic Lubomir (Roughing), Ivan Bondarenko (Hooking), and Mike Coyne (High Sticking).

Zach Quinn was able to save 28 out of 32 shots on goal for the Wild tonight while playing all 60 minutes.

To end the night, David Powlowski earned 3rd Star of the Game.

Following tonight's game, Coach Littler said, "We had our chances. Need to make the most of the ones we get. Still learning we have to work harder longer."
