Wenatchee Fire Signs Al Valencia
WENATCHEE, WA - Al Valencia, of USL's Premier Development League Yakima Reds, has signed a Professional Arena Soccer League contract with the Wenatchee Fire FC.
Valencia, a 22-year-old defender/midfielder, joins Yakima Reds teammates Junior Garcia and Juan Viveros and Auburn's Brandon Hammer as the fourth player to be signed by the Wenatchee Fire FC who will begin their inaugural PASL season November 15, 2008 when they open against the Stockton Cougars at the brand new Town Toyota Center in Wenatchee, WA.
Valencia, has been a team captain and mainstay in the Yakima Reds defense since 2006. Al played for Wenatchee Valley Community College in 2004 and 2005, as did Garcia and Viveros, leading the Knights to the NWAACC championship in 2005, and earning league all-star status in 2005. "Al is a solid player who you can play anywhere on the field. He is like having a second coach on the field. Guys respond to his leadership, " said Nelson Zaldivar, former coach and head coach of WVCC Men's Soccer Team.
"Al is a very intelligent player who communicates and organizes his teammates well," said, Mike Osborn, General Manager and Head Coach of the Wenatchee Fire FC. "He is a talented, hard-working motivator who's ready to take his game to the next level. Al was a major contributor in our 2006 PASL NW Regional Championship season where the team went 13-0 before being eliminated by the eventual champion, Sacramento FC. He is extremely quick and will help us transition with pace on both sides of the ball. Al will bring great leadership to the team and will be a solid role model both on and off the field for the 126,000 plus youth that play soccer in Washington State."
