Wenatchee Fire Recovers from Four Goal Deficit to Draw in Snohomish

February 13, 2011 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) - Wenatchee Fire News Release

It was a dejected Fire side that entered the locker room at halftime. They had just played an atrocious second quarter, allowing the home Snohomish Skyhawks to erase their tenuous one goal lead to the tune of five straight finishes past overworked 'keeper Matt Stalnik. Then, Garret Brown decided to put the team on his shoulders.

Brown scored a season-high five goals on the night on his way to man of the match honours, Wenatchee Fire rebounded from one of their worst quarters of the season to draw their regional rivals 7-7. "We had to dig deep...the team got me the ball, and I put it away," said Brown of his effort on the night. He now leads the team with 15 goals on the season.

Matt Stalnik had a solid night in net, allowing 7 goals on the heavy total of 32 shots on net as well as assisting on Brian Galvan's first tally of the year. Juan Barboza scored the equalizing goal with 2:09 remaining in the match, and Barboza, Mauricio Lopez, and Elias Lopez all contributed assists in the effort. With the draw, the Fire should have clinched a wildcard berth into the PASL-Premier National Championship Tournament as a semiprofessional team, which will be held March 4-5 in Las Vegas.

Wenatchee Fire returns home tomorrow, February 13, to take on the professional Kitsap Pumas with a special Sunday start time of 5:05. Their final home game is February 19 against perennial rival Tacoma Stars.
