RAPIDS HOST PORTLAND TIMBERS ON SATURDAY: The Colorado Rapids take on the Portland Timbers this Saturday, June 30th at 7:00 p.m. at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in their first of three matches in eight days. The Timbers currently sit at eighth in the Western Conference and most recently defeated league rival Seattle Sounders FC 2-1 on June 24. Having just returned from injuries, Rapids forwards Conor Casey and Omar Cummings could see the pitch together for the first time since July 16, 2011. 17th Annual 4thFEST Celebration and Fireworks, 5:00 - 10:00 p.m.
RAPIDS FACE VANCOUVER WHITECAPS IN 17th ANNUAL 4THFEST: On Wednesday, July 4, the Colorado Rapids will host their 17th Annual 4thFEST Celebration, presented by Westerra Credit Union, at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The festival begins in the parking lots of the complex at 5:00 p.m., and features activities for adults and children including a live performance by That Eighties Band, karaoke, the Salida Circus, a zip line, arts and crafts, and more, to celebrate Independence Day. The Rapids face Vancouver Whitecaps FC at 7:30 p.m., presented by HealthONE, inside the stadium, and then immediately following the match ticketed fans are invited to sit on the pitch to watch the state's largest display of fireworks. UNDER-18 TEAM BEGINS PLAYOFFS TONIGHT IN DALLAS: The Colorado Rapids Under-18 team begins the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Playoffs tonight, taking on South Carolina United Battery at 6:30 p.m. CT at the FC Dallas Sports Park in Frisco, Texas. They'll then face Empire United on Tuesday and the Dallas Texans on Thursday to round out the group stage. The winner of the group will advance to Finals Week held in Houston from July 16-23. The Rapids qualified for playoffs by finishing second in their division with a 6-3-5 record and 23 points (10-3-8 overall). For more information on playoffs and finals week, click here .
OMAR CUMMINGS MAKES RETURN FROM INJURY IN SAN JOSE MATCH: Colorado Rapids forward Omar Cummings made his return to action after missing over a month due to injury as a 68th minute sub for Conor Casey against the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday, June 20. Cummings sprained his left ankle on May 6 against FC Dallas. Midfielder Jamie Smith was included in the 18-man roster against San Jose for the first time since tearing his ACL last October, and could make his first appearance of the season this Saturday. RAPIDS SIGN SHANE O'NEILL AS HOME GROWN PLAYER: The Colorado Rapids signed Boulder's Shane O'Neill on Tuesday, June 19 as the club's second-ever Homegrown Player. O'Neill, a midfielder for the Rapids Academy since 2009, scored 10 goals in 15 matches with the U-18 Team this season, and was named Colorado's 2011 Gatorade Boys Soccer Player of the Year. He is still eligible to participate with the U-18s in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Playoffs and is with the team in Frisco this week. RAPIDS SUPPORT HUNGER FREE COLORADO: The Colorado Rapids are supporting Hunger Free Colorado and other partners to bring awareness to the Summer Food Program by displaying a large plate, fork, and knife on the south-facing wall of the main building at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The Summer Food Program provides free, healthy meals to children while they are out of school for the summer where they may not have access to nutritious foods. RAPIDS FACE SWANSEA CITY IN FRIENDLY ON JULY 24 : Tickets to the July 24 matchup between Colorado Rapids and English Premier League side Swansea City are on sale to the public and start at $22, and a special two-pack offer with the September 5 game against the Portland Timbers is available for $40. The Swans finished their 2011-12 Premier League season with an impressive 1-0 victory over 8th place Liverpool to give them a 12-15-11 record, good for 11th in the table.
