Waza Flo News Release
(Detroit, MI)- Detroit continues to build momentum looking to repeat as Eastern Division Champions after securing two big wins this past weekend. With Friday's blow-out in Medina Ohio, beating the Vortex 8-2, and Sunday's matinee victory over the Cincinnati Kings 8-4, Detroit WAZA FLO are on course steering toward a championship rematch with San Diego in March.
Detroit eased past the Ohio Vortex Friday night with stand out performances byÃÂ Miki Djerisilo and Costea Decu,ÃÂ each netting hat tricks. ÃÂ Detroit was temporarily shook up when team captain Miki Djerisilo took a hard hit to the head and went down with what was believed to be a concussion, but has since been cleared by a physician and will be back in the line-up for their next home match.
Plagued by starting lineup injuries, Detroit called on seasoned veterans Worteh Sampson and head coach Matt Johnson to suit up for Sunday's always hard hitting match against the Cincinnati Kings. ÃÂ The points began immediately as Detroit's Arron Byrd (assist by Zane Polack) and Niki Djokic (assist by Ricardo Lopes) netted one each. ÃÂ Cincinnati answered back, quickly adding three of their own, putting Detroit down one in the first. ÃÂ With a laser goal by Ricardo Lopes (assist by Victor Otieno) and another by Drew Ducker (assist by Darrel Quinn)ÃÂ Detroit regained the lead proving their depth too much for Cincinnati, as player after player stepped up to add to the scoreboard.ÃÂ
By the end of the fourth, Waza added three more goals (Otieno- assisted by Micheal Grba, Quinn- assisted by Byrd, and Zack Wilkes- assisted by Ducker) firmly establishing a lead and revving up the home town crowd. ÃÂ "Today we showed that we are talented team and that any one of us can step up when called on", said head coach Dominic Scicluna, referring to the 8 individual goals, and 7 separate assists by his players. ÃÂ Scicluna also had a walk-in empty netter when Cincinnati pulled their keeper, Craig Salvati, to add a sixth attacker.
Detroit continues their quest and return to the Taylor Sportsplex for another double header next Saturday, January 12th (7:30 kick-off) and Sunday, January 13th (2:30 kick-off) when they take on the Harrisburg Heat of Pennsylvania.ÃÂ
