
Week Six Metro High School Awards Announced

St. Louis - October 3, 2006 -With six weeks in the books, there a many undefeated teams around the greater metro area, and one of them is the Team of the Week. In Week 2, Albert Thomas dominated the high school gridiron getting three touchdowns and over 250 yards rushing. Week 6 however, was a different story, as the Oakville Tigers held Thomas to 26 yards and no touchdowns, in route to defeating the Marquette Mustangs 38-3. The win by the Tigers gives them a (2-0) Suburban West record and a (5-0) record overall. Senior, Fred Walton scored on three rushing plays for the Tigers gaining 136 yards. Jourdan Riley helped the tigers extend the lead in the fourth quarter returning a kickoff 95 yards.
The Offensive Player of Week 6 is Junior, Mikel Whittier of Webster Groves, who led the Statesmen to their first win of the season defeating the Howell Vikings 38-7. Whittier went 15 of 24 for 251 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. This season he has amassed an amazing 1,520 yards passing while throwing 14 touchdowns with 7 interceptions. Whittier's 109.4 passing ratio is second in the area. Senior, Tommy Saey of Parkway North leads the area with a ratio of 152.5, but has only thrown 44 passes compared to the 176 by Whittier. This week, Whittier will take his team to face the tough CBC Cadets who are (3-0) in the Metro Catholic Conference and (4-1) overall.
Week 6's Defensive Player of the Week is from the rival of Webster Groves; he is Chad Evans of the Kirkwood Pioneers. Evans picked up four sacks in Friday nights 21-7 win over the Mehlville Panthers. This weekend, the Pioneers will look to improve to (5-0) when they host the (5-0) Gateway Teach Jaguars.
