FRIDAY, MAY 14
GREEN BAY BLIZZARD 71, Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz 53 (Attendance: 3,706)
GREEN BAY, Wis. - Chris Greisen completed 23 of 35 passes for 334 yards and nine touchdown passes with no interceptions and ran for another with zero interceptions as the Blizzard (3-3) took down the Yard Dawgz (4-2) 71-53 Friday night at the Resch Center. Randall Lane was the leading receiver, catching seven Greisen passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns. For the Yard Dawgz, Craig Strickland threw six touchdown passes going 18-for-34 for 281 yards with two interceptions. Timon Marshall caught two Strickland touchdown strikes, totaling eight receptions for 120 yards. DeRonn Finley and Roose Williams registered the interceptions for the Blizzard, which proved to be the difference in the game.
BIRMINGHAM STEELDOGS 55, Florida Firecats 34 (Attendance: 5,048)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Kenton Evans threw all four of his touchdown passes in the Steeldogs (5-1) 35-point second quarter as they beat the Firecats (3-3) 55-34 Friday night at the BJCC. Birmingham forced three Florida turnovers on three straight possessions in the second quarter, turning them all into points and pulling away from the Firecats. Larry Huntington caught two touchdown passes and recorded an interception on defense to win the U.S. Army Ironman of the Game award. The Firecats' Anthony Snead was the leading receiver in the game catching seven passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns.
SATURDAY, MAY 15
Albany Conquest 60, LOUISVILLE FIRE 56 (Attendance: 8,347)
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - D Bryant completed 13-of-25 passes for 314 and six touchdown passes while adding two rushing touchdowns, including a 40-yard run to the end zone late in the game, to lead the Conquest (2-4) over the Fire (4-2) 60-56 Saturday night at Freedom Hall. Bryant consistently found Tony Locke who caught eight passes for 212 yards and four touchdowns, including two 40-yard touchdown receptions. Anthony Payton was the leading receiver for the Fire with eight catches for 127 yards and two touchdowns. Rob Green picked off a Matt Sauk pass late in the fourth quarter to record the only interception of the game.
MACON KNIGHTS 55, Columbus Wardogs 40 (Attendance: 3,204)
MACON, Ga. - The Knights (2-4) used a 28-7 fourth quarter rally to run away from the Wardogs (1-5) 55-40 Saturday night at the Macon Coliseum. In just his second start for the Knights, Cecil Lester (Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game) completed 16-of-32 passes for 239 yards and four touchdowns and he rushed eight times for 39 yards and three more scores. Micah Cooper caught two of Lester's touchdown strikes and led the Knights with six receptions for 86 yards. Columbus signal-caller Kyle Rowley went 18-of-34 for 258 yards and six touchdowns, but also threw two interceptions. Adrian Cockfield added to his league-leading receptions total by catching 10 passes for a game-high 143 yards and four touchdowns. The Knights are now 7-0 all-time against their in-state rival.
MEMPHIS XPLORERS 37, Arkansas Twisters 35 (Attendance: 3,571)
SOUTH HAVEN, Miss. -The Xplorers (3-3), despite trailing most of the second half, rallied back behind the play of WR Robert Kilow and QB Brian Jones to defeat the Twisters (1-5) 37-35 Saturday night at the DeSoto Civic Center. Jones, who started the game on the bench after six turnovers in the last two games, came off the bench and threw three touchdown passes on 8-for-10 completions, including the game-winning score with 19 seconds remaining to Kilow. Kilow, who also scored a rushing touchdown early in the game, was named the Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Most Valuable Player for the game. FB/LB Darnell Small for Arkansas was named the ADT Defensive Player of the Game, as he found himself disrupting several Xplorers plays throughout the contest. And WR/LB Deumaine Reeder was named the Army Ironman of the Game, thanks to his steady offensive contributions and key defensive plays late in the game. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers 33, PEORIA PIRATES 30 (Attendance: 4,141)
PEORIA, Ill. - Wes Virgilio nailed a 20-yard field goal with two seconds left in the game to lift the Pioneers (5-1) over the Pirates (2-5) 33-30 Saturday night at the Peoria Civic Center. The game-winning field goal capped a fourth quarter comeback in which the Pioneers outscored the Pirates 10-3. Tim Hicks completed 26-of-51 passes for 234 yards and four touchdowns with one interception for the Pioneers. Two of his touchdown strikes went to J.R.Thomas, who led all receivers with 12 catches for 125 yards. The Pirates Troy Edwards went 15-for-26 for 105 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. Casey Urlacher rushed six times for 21 yards and one touchdown and Dwayne Smith added a 57-yard kickoff return to account for the Pirates other two touchdowns.
LAREDO LAW 57, Tulsa Talons 48 (Attendance: 3,331)
LAREDO, TEXAS - Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game Rocky Perez passed for four touchdowns and rushed for two more as the Law (1-5) topped the Talons (3-3) 57-48 Saturday night at the Laredo Entertainment Center. Perez completed 18-of-29 passes for 255 yards, including six passes to P.J. Winston for 132 yards and two scores. Talons gunslinger Michael Wall went 17-of-28 for 218 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for another score. Mitch Allner led all receivers with 10 receptions for 168 yards and three touchdowns. The Law's Traco Rachal earned ADT Defensive Player of the game by registering seven tackles (5UA-4AT) and an interception.
QUAD CITY STEAMWHEELERS 73, Wichita Stealth 39 (Attendance: 6,246)
MOLINE, Ill. - Ronnie Gordon completed 19-of-24 passes for 265 yards and six touchdowns to help the No. 2 ranked Steamwheelers (6-1) drop the No. 1 ranked Stealth (5-1) 73-39 Saturday night at The Mark. Gordon also rushed for two more scores and was named Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game. Tim Dodge (8-107; 2 TDs) and Jeff Hewitt (6-94; 3 TDs) led the way for the Steamwheelers, totaling 14 catches for 201 yards and five touchdowns between the two of them. Stealth QB Aaron Sparrow went 25-for-45 for 267 yards and three touchdowns with one interception in his first loss of the season. He also added a rushing touchdown. The Stealth defense managed three sacks on the night, while Chazz Moore tallied eight solo tackles to lead the Steamwheelers.
TENNESSEE VALLEY VIPERS 52, Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings 14 (Attendance: 4,609)
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Ronney Daniels grabbed six receptions for 65 yards and two touchdowns as the Vipers (5-1) shutdown the Battle Wings (2-5) 52-14 Saturday night at the Von Braun Center. Daniels, who also totaled 83 yards in missed field goal returns, earned Baby Ruth Offensive Player of the Game. QB Josh Kellet was 20-of-35 passing for the Vipers. He threw for 242 yards and five touchdowns with only one interception. The Vipers defense held the Battle Wings to 167 yards of total offense as QB Sherard Poteete was held to 10-for-31 passing for 133 yards and one touchdown. The Vipers also recovered three fumbles on the night, including one each by Ironman of the Game Jerrian James and ADT Defensive Player of the Game Travis McAlpine.
BAKERSFIELD BLITZ 39, San Diego Riptide 36 (Attendance: 4,086)
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Brian Walker connected on a 34-yard field as time expired, giving the Blitz (4-2) a 39-36 win over the Riptide (1-5) Saturday night at Centennial Garden. The Riptide's Kane Claunch earned Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game honors by completing 23-of-37 passes for 294 yards and four touchdowns. One of those touchdowns went to Dwight Carter, who totaled eight catches for 113 yards on the night. Bakersfield's Chad Elliott went 23-for-29 for 228 yards and four touchdowns with one interception. The leading Blitz receiver was Eric Mahanke with eight receptions for 84 yards and two scores. On defense Rico Curtis tallied 9.5 tackles (7UA-5AT) to lead the Riptide, while Bakersfield's Nick Onaindia had two sacks to earn ADT Defensive Player of the Game.
CENTRAL VALLEY COYOTES 42, Rio Grande Valley Dorados 25 (Attendance: 3,658)
FRESNO, Calif. - Rookie Kyle Biggs completed 17-of-30 passes for 255 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions to lead the Coyotes (1-5) to a 42-25 upset over the Dorados (3-3) Saturday night at Selland Arena. Kenyatte Morgan caught eight of Biggs passes, including four for touchdowns, to total 132 yards. LaMonte Jones (three receptions for 53 yards) grabbed the other two receiving touchdowns. Defensively, the Coyotes forced two interceptions, three sacks and a fumble. VonKeith Spencer had one of the two picks, extending his interception streak to five games. Halakilangi Muagututia amasses 10 tackles (8UA-4AT) and three pass deflections for the Coyotes, who held Dorados QB Will Burch to 100 yards and two touchdowns on 10-of-18 passing.
