Omaha, NE - Week four has come and gone. This weekend's games saw the Ice defeat the Extreme, the Bandits clip the Outlaws and the Beef beat the Storm, ending the longest winning streak in professional sports at 40.
COLORADO 43, BLOOMINGTON 23
At Bloomington, IL
The Colorado Ice defeated the Bloomington Extreme 43-23 Friday evening at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum. Leading the Ice in the victory were QB Garrett Mehl and LB Ryan Palmer. Mehl accumulated 215 yards of total offense (48 rushing and 167 passing) and threw for two touchdowns. Palmer tallied a team-high 7.5 tackles (one TFL) and ½ a sack. Bloomington was led by WR Derin Graham and DB Carlos Lattimore. Graham caught two passes for 50 yards and also returned five kicks for 108 yards. Lattimore made five solo tackles and assisted on seven more for a total of 8.5 to lead the team. Next weekend, Colorado hits the road again to face the Sioux City Bandits while Bloomington heads to Wichita.
SIOUX CITY 31, BILLINGS 30
At Sioux City, IA
The Sioux City Bandits clipped the Billings Outlaws 31-30 Friday evening at the Tyson Events Center. Leading the Bandits in the win were DB Chad Hustedt and WR O.J. Simpson. Hustedt was second on the team with his 7.5 tackles and also intercepted a pass. Offensively, Simpson had caught eight passes for 109 yards and two touchdowns. On special teams, he returned two kicks for 43 yards. Billings was led by WR Willie Austin and DB Jacquwan Brackenridge. Austin caught six passes for 79 yards and two touchdowns. Brackenridge contributed 8.5 tackles and an interception to lead the defense. Next weekend, Sioux City will host Colorado as Billings is home against Sioux Falls.
OMAHA 34, SIOUX FALLS 18
At Omaha, NE
The Omaha Beef beat the Sioux Falls Storm 34-18 Saturday evening at the Omaha Civic Auditorium, ending the Storm's 40-game winning streak. The streak, which started in Omaha on July 30, 2005, was the longest in professional sports. Omaha was led by DB Diezeas Calbert and QB James McNear in the victory. Calbert tallied seven tackles and also intercepted two Terrance Bryant passes. McNear had 156 yards of total offense (67 rushing and 89 passing) and threw for two touchdowns. Leading the way for the Storm were WR/KR Bryan Alberty and DL Dominic Payne. Alberty caught four passes for 36 yards and a touchdown and also returned seven kicks for 177 yards to finish the night with 213 all-purpose yards. Payne made six solo stops and also assisted on six more to lead the team with nine tackles. Next weekend, Omaha welcomes RiverCity while Sioux Falls heads west to meet Billings.
