ALBANY CONQUEST (0-3) AT MANCHESTER WOLVES (1-3)
FRIDAY, APRIL 30, 2004 - VERIZON WIRELESS ARENA (9,500) 7:30 P.M. ET
Still looking for their first win of the season, the Albany Conquest head to Manchester to face the Wolves at Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. These two teams met two weeks ago in Albany with the Wolves coming away with a 47-34 win. In that game, Wolves quarterback CHRIS SANDERS completed 25-of-37 passes for 298 yards with no interceptions and six touchdowns for his best outing of the season to date. REGGIE ROBINSON was on the receiving end of 11 of those passes for 125 yards and three scores. For the Conquest, GUS ORNSTEIN sets up under center and he has thrown 16 touchdowns this season. One of his favorite targets has been JAMIE WARE, who has caught 15 passes for 282 yards and five touchdowns on the year. Last week Ware caught two touchdowns, rushed for another score and broke up three passes on defense as the Conquest nearly got past the Louisville Fire. Averaging nearly 50 points per game, the Conquests' troubles have come on defense as the team has allowed close to 60 points per game. Manchester's defense has fared better, giving up 51.8 per game, but the offense has struggled at times as evidenced by the 38.8 points per game average. With the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers off to a 3-0 start, both Albany and Manchester need wins to keep the Northeast race tight. This is the second of three meetings between these clubs. They wrap-up the season series on July 23 in Albany.
HAWAIIAN ISLANDERS (3-1) AT BOSSIER-SHREVEPORT BATTLE WINGS (1-3)
FRIDAY, APRIL 29, 2004 - CENTURY TEL CENTER (12,500) 8:00 P.M. ET
The Hawaiian Islanders hope to extend their lead in the West Division with a win over the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings on Friday night. Hawaii knocked off Bakersfield 45-40 last week to take sole possession of first place, while the Battle Wings struggled against the Memphis Xplorers in a 69-29 setback. To see why the Islanders are off to a 3-1 start, look no further than the ARCENEAUX brothers. Quarterback Darnell and his younger brother Anthony have combined for eight receptions for 13 receptions for 218 yards and seven touchdowns already this season. Darnell is closing in on 1,000 passing yards and 20 touchdowns, and he also has rushed for nearly 60 yards with three scores. Little brother Anthony also has excelled on defense for the Islanders, leading the team with two interceptions. The Battle Wings success is dependent on the arm and legs of star quarterback SHERARD POTEETE. The mobile gunslinger has tossed 13 touchdowns and rushed for four more this season. When throwing, Poteet has an able trio of potential targets in BO SMITH, SHADRICK MCAFEE and FRANCISCO KELLY. Smith leads the club with 185 receiving yard and four scores, but McAffe and Kelly are not far behind with 181 and 160 yards respectively. McAffe poses a threat on special teams as well, having returned a missed field goal 52 yards for a score. The Islanders won the first meeting between these teams 63-60 two weeks ago in Honolulu in a back-and-forth contest that went down to the wire. This is the final meeting of these teams this season.
