FRIDAY, APRIL 30
MANCHESTER WOLVES 51, Albany Conquest 34 (Attendance: 8,146)
MANCHESTER, N.H. - Chris Sanders completed 77 percent of his passes for 271 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Manchester Wolves (2-3) past the Albany Conquest (0-4) 51-34 Friday night at Verizon Wireless Arena. Sanders, who also rushed for three touchdowns was named the Baby Ruth Real Deal Player of the game. Other standouts for the Wolves on offense were WR/DB Ryan Soule (three catches, 71 yards, two touchdowns), WR/DB George Williams (three catches, 31 yards, one touchdown) and WR/DB Henry Frazier (two catches, 40 yards, one touchdown). Conquest QB Gus Ornstein went 15-of-37 passing for 215 yards and four touchdowns. Tony Locke caught three of those touchdowns on four receptions for 74 yards. The Wolves also set a new af2 record by receiving 23 penalties for 194 yards.
BOSSIER-SHREVEPORT BATTLE WINGS 61, Hawaiian Islanders 42 (Attendance: 2,776)
BOSSIER CITY, La. - The Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings (2-3) rebounded from a poor offensive showing last week by handing the Hawaiian Islanders (3-2) a 61-42 loss at the Century Tel Center on Friday night. Sherard Poteete passed for three touchdowns and rushed for two more to lead the Battle Wings. Bo Smith led the Battle Wings with six receptions for 60 yards and two touchdowns. Teammate Joe Weber added two rushing tallies. Islanders' QB Darnell Arceneaux completed 19-of-39 passes for 219 yards with four touchdowns and he registered one rushing score. Arceneaux threw two of his touchdowns to younger brother Anthony, who had three receptions for 45 yards. Aaron Smith led the Islanders with nine catches for 75 yards. The Islanders held the Battle Wings to 134 yards of total offense in the losing effort.
SATURDAY, MAY 1
WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON PIONEERS 59, Louisville Fire 51 (Attendance: 5,545)
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Tim Hicks completed 19-of-28 passes for 275 yards and eight touchdowns as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers (4-0) dropped the Louisville Fire (3-1) 59-51 Saturday night at Wachovia Arena. Hicks threw 10 passes to J.R. Thomas (Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game) for 154 yards and three touchdowns. Also contributing to the cause were receivers Jurron Kelly (5 receptions, 57 yards, two TDs), Leroy McFadden (2 receptions, 43 yards, two TDs), and Ameer Riley (2 receptions, 21 yards, one TD). Louisville's Tony Stallings rushed for two touchdowns and led the Fire with 11 receptions for 111 yards and two more touchdowns.
CAPE FEAR WILDCATS 60, Columbus Wardogs 21 (Attendance: 3,528)
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Chris Wallace completed 10-of-17 passes for 159 yards and five touchdowns as the Cape Fear Wildcats (3-1) blew past the Columbus Wardogs (1-3) 60-21 Saturday night at Crown Coliseum. Wallace threw touchdowns to four different receivers, including two to Chris McKinney who had three receptions for 67 yards. Darvell Bivens added two rushing tallies for the Wildcats as he had nine carries for 52 yards. Teammate Keeon Johnson gained 56 yards on four rushes. Adrian Cockfield caught two of the Wardogs three touchdowns, totaling 104 yards on 10 catches. The Cape Fear defense recovered two fumbles and recorded three sacks on the night. Antwon Robinson added a 24-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Florida Firecats 58, MACON KNIGHTS 23 (Attendance: 3,494)
MACON, Ga. - Steve Gorrie carried the ball nine times for 57 yards and three touchdowns to help the Florida Firecats (2-2) run past the Macon Knights (1-3) 58-23 Saturday night at the Macon Coliseum. Ken Mastrole earned Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game by completing 18-of-25 passes for 226 yards and five touchdowns. Magic Benton hauled in eight of Mastrole's passes for 133 yards and three touchdowns. Wayne Thomas, who joined the Knights earlier this week, hauled in five passes for 63 yards and two touchdowns. Jamaal Garman was kept out of the endzone after catching three touchdown passes in each of the Knights' last three games. Garman caught four passes for 53 yards. Caleb Slover finished 14-of-38 for 192 yards and three touchdowns. In his first game back for the Firecats Roy Stabler grabbed ADT Defensive Player of the Game honors by claiming the only interception of the game and recording 1.5 tackles and two pass breakups.
Rio Grande Valley 58, LAREDO LAW 38 (Attendance: 4,869)
LAREDO, TEXAS - Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game Will Burch completed 15-of-30 passes for 212 yards and seven touchdowns with no interceptions to lead the Rio Grande Valley Dorados (3-1) over the Laredo Law (0-4) Saturday night at the Laredo Entertainment Center. Manwell Talbert caught three of those touchdowns on four receptions for 43 yards. He also amassed 40 rushing yards on two carries. Martino Theus led the Law with seven catches for 78 yards and one touchdown. Teammate P.J. Winston added five catches on 65 yards with two touchdowns. Nick Davis recorded a game-high six solo tackles for the Dorados and Rico Gardner and Raymond James each tallied sacks.
QUAD CITY STEAMWHEELERS 47, Green Bay Blizzard 26 (Attendance: 5,853)
MOLINE, Ill. - Jeff Hewitt grabbed nine receptions for 128 yards with three touchdowns and he rushed for another score, earning Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game in the Quad City Steamwheelers (4-1) 47-26 win over division rival Green Bay Blizzard (1-3) Saturday night at The Mark. Former Steamwheeler Randall Lane led all receivers with nine catches for 144 yards and three touchdowns for the Blizzard. Green Bay QB Dennis Gile completed 15-of-39 for 193 yards and four touchdowns but also threw three interceptions, including two to Matt Forbes. Ronnie Gordon went 16-of-27 for 224 yards and four touchdowns with only one interception. He also rushed for one touchdown. The Steamwheelers have won ten straight at home during the regular season.
TENNESSEE VALLEY VIPERS 43, Memphis Xplorers 33 (Attendance: 5,084)
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Tennessee Valley Vipers moved into first place in the Mid-South Division by snapping Memphis' two-game win streak with a 43-33 decision over the Xplorers Saturday night at the Von Braun Center. Ronney Daniels caught the only two receiving touchdowns for the Vipers on three receptions for 45 yards. Daniel first touchdown was the only receiving touchdown of the game until the fourth quarter. Kevin Prentiss caught the Xplorers only passing touchdown and he returned four kickoffs for 124 yards and two touchdowns. The Vipers grabbed three interceptions in the game, including one that Henry Freeman returned 48 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
OKLAHOMA CITY YARD DAWGZ 62, Tulsa Talons 60 (Attendance: 13,434)
OKLAHOMA CITY - Two of the league's top scoring offenses did what they do best by combining for 122 points as the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz (3-1) edged the Tulsa Talons (2-2) 62-60 Saturday night at the Ford Center. Craig Strickland (Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game) threw for 273 yards and six touchdowns on 17-of-27 passing, while his counterpart Michael Wall completed 21-of-35 for 253 yards and eight touchdowns. Neither QB threw an interception. Al Hunt (U.S. Army Ironman of the Game) led the Yard Dawgz with four receptions for 110 yards and three touchdowns. Mitch Allner paced the Talons with nine receptions for 134 yards and three scores. Teammate Robert Reed also had three touchdown receptions. The expansion Yard Dawgz are now 2-0 against the defending ArenaCup Champion Talons.
BAKERSFIELD BLITZ 49, Arkansas Twisters 21 (Attendance: 5,404)
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Rennard Reynolds hauled in 11 passes for 176 yards and four touchdowns to earn Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game as the Bakersfield Blitz (3-2) stormed past the Arkansas Twisters (1-3) 49-21 Saturday night at Centennial Garden. Blitz QB Chad Elliot completed 24-of-37 passes for 284 yards and six touchdowns on the night. Eric Mahanke caught the other two touchdowns on six catches for 53 yards. Blitz defenders sacked Arkansas QB Henry Young five times, including 1.5 from ADT Defensive Player of the Game Kevin Carroll. Carroll also tallied 3.5 tackles (3UA-1AT), forced a fumble and was credited with a safety.
