Week Eleven Recap
May 2, 2011 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release
Richmond, VA: The Indoor Football League is proud to recap another great week of Indoor Football as Week Eleven of the 2011 season comes to a close. Streaks were broken as well as playoffs hopes coming into sight as we recap this riveting week.
The eleventh week of the season began in Chicago as our "Game of the Week "took place between the division rival Slaughter and the Green Bay Blizzard. This back and forth matchup kept fans at the edge of their seats as they saw two teams battle it out for the win. Scoring would remain constant throughout the game as the Slaughter and Blizzard both tallied up 10 points, as Shatone Powers and Robert Garth both reeled in touchdowns for their respective teams. The game would remain neck and neck throughout until the fourth quarter when kicker Chris Nendick tied on and 33 yard field goal to seal the victory 42-39 Slaughter.
Our second match up of the week took place in Bloomington, IL as the Wichita Wild would travel to face the Extreme in search of their second win. The Wild would come out strong in the first, scoring ten points and leaving the Extreme with only a field goal. The Wild would see that lead quickly diminish in second as Bloomington added scores by James Temple and a field goal by Christofilakos. The fourth quarter would start with the Extreme up one point 18-17, but the Wild showed great strength and the will to win holding the Extreme to no scores in the fourth and registering a field goal to take the game 20- 18 Wild.
The Fairbanks Grizzlies would continue their winning streak this weekend as they bring in their 6th win in a row. John Halman of the Grizzlies had a stand out game reeling in four touchdowns on four receptions. The Venom would begin the second quarter scoreless with a 7-0 deficit; it was until Phillip Goodman would receive a pass from QB Charles Dowdell to add their first points of the game. With the momentum of the first score the Venom would continue to score, as did the Grizzlies. Fairbanks would fight hard and rack up a total of 78 points by the fourth quarter and leaving the Venom no chance falling 78-33.
The La Crosse Spartans would put on a show for their fans on Saturday, blowing out the visiting Steelhawks 51-0. The Spartans game started at the Quarterback position as Buddy Rivera would connect for four passing touchdowns and 192 yards. LaRon Council would not leave his name off of the sheet as he would record three touchdowns, two rushing and one receiving for 84 yards. The third quarter would remain scoreless for the Spartans, but the home team would come back in the fourth to add 26 more points to finish the game.
The Revolution continues to struggle on the road as they visited the Express this Saturday. Monte Purvis quarterback for the Revolution came ready to play scoring all four touchdowns for his team and registering 229 yards. Unfortunately, it was not enough to hang with the Express, as Malleo threw for five touchdowns as well as one touchdown rushing. A kick returned for a touchdown by Jesse Cooper would put the game out of reach and post the final at 49-28 Reading Express.
The Beef look to start a streak coming off of their big intra state win against the Nebraska Danger. For their second straight home appearance the Omaha Beef would play host to the Wyoming Cavalry. The Beef would make a statement starting off strong and ending the first half with a lead of 34-3. Touchdowns were posting from all specs of the game as McNear would throw for four touchdowns, rush for two, and also receive a little help from returner Courtney Grixby as he would also return a kickoff for 51 yards and seal the victory for the Beef 68 - 24.
There was a rumble in Texas this weekend as the intra state rival Allen Wranglers would visit the Venom in Amarillo. The game would remain in lock between the two teams throughout the first half ending with a score of 23-20 Allen. It was until the third where the Wranglers would open the flood gates, putting up 21 points and holding the Venom scoreless throughout the third and fourth quarter ending the game at 44-20 Allen Wranglers.
The Fever is another team in Week Eleven to prove their streak is no fluke. The Fever would win their sixth straight game of the season against the Seattle Timberwolves and in dominating fashion none the less. QB Houston Lillard would tally up 5 touchdowns on the evening (4 passing, 1 rush) for a total of 247 yards on the night. The Timberwolves would struggle to fight back only scoring one touchdown per quarter excluding the second, where they also added two field goals. This would make for an impossible comeback as the Tri-Cities Fever would score 21 points in the fourth quarter alone and seal the game 63-33.
Week Eleven would bring yet another win back to Sioux Falls as they continue their perfect season at 8-0. The Nebraska Danger was in hopes of ending this perfect season as they came out of the first quarter with a ten point lead. QB Willie Tuitama would have an outstanding game throwing for 301 yards and five touchdowns, yet it was still not enough to hold off the "Perfect Storm". The Storm would fight back outscoring the Danger in both the second and third quarters to take the lead. With the game ending buzzer sounding, the Sioux Falls Storm would sneak out of what shows to be their toughest match up yet with a final of 78-56.
Coming off of their first loss of the season the ICE would be looking to freeze over any doubts about their now 8-1 team. Facing a troublesome 0-9 Adrenaline the ICE would be looking to put on a show for their fans and gain redemption from week ten. Running Back Maurice Greer would break out onto the scene scoring 3 touchdowns and totaling 78 yards. It was the defense that would control the game for the ICE holding the visiting Adrenaline scoreless in three quarters for a final score of 74 - 13
