FRIDAY'S GAMES

Norfolk 49, WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON 35 (Attendance: 4,652): Quarterback AARON SPARROW completed 20-of-31 passes for 263 yards and six touchdowns as the Nighthawks (4-2) flew past the Pioneers (1-6). Sparrow threw no interceptions and rushed for another touchdown while connecting to game MVP TRAVIS BURNS for 141 yards and four touchdowns.

MOHEGAN 56, Richmond 43 (Attendance: 3,883): Game MVP GREG SMITH threw for 236 yards and six touchdowns to lift the Wolves (4-2) over the Speed (3-3). Offensive specialist and Ironman of the game CY BUTLER caught four passes for 66 yards and two touchdowns and returned five kickoffs for 139 yards. ADT Defensive player of the game CHARLIE COOK had three sacks to put the brakes on Speed quarterback ROY JOHNSON. Speed offensive specialist DAMON THOMPSON netted 17 receptions for 197 yards and three scores.

QUAD CITY 64, Green Bay 55 (Attendance: 5,725): Ironman of the game TIM DODGE caught three touchdowns and had one interception as the Steamwheelers (5-2) extended their winning streak to five. Offensive specialist IRA GOOCH caught two touchdowns, returned a kickoff for a touchdown and totaled 329 all-purpose yards as Quad City melted the Blizzard's (0-6) hopes for a first win of the season. Quarterbacks RAMON ROBINSON (Green Bay) and TONY ZIMMERMAN (Quad City) each passed for six touchdowns.

HAWAII 61, Wichita 55 (Attendance: 3,197): Ironman of the game NIAN TAYLOR caught three touchdown passes, all in the second half, helping the Islanders (5-2) grab sole possession of first place in the West from the Stealth (4-3). Hawaii quarterback DARNELL ARCENEAUX tossed a season-high six touchdowns, including a 30-yarder to his brother ANTHONY ARCENEAUX in the third quarter. Game MVP EDDIE KLANESKI returned six kicks for 187 yards, including a 56-yard touchdown scamper.

SATURDAY'S GAMES:

Albany 52, ROCHESTER 38 (Attendance: 2,321): Game MVP RYAN VENA helped the Conquest (5-1) to its third straight win, passing for 297 yards with six touchdowns and rushing for another score against the Brigade (1-6). PHIL YARBEROUGH was named Ironman of the Game for his three touchdown performance (2 rec, 1 INT). COREY HILL caught a game-high nine passes for 82 yards, while adding another 70 yards on returns. Rochester's DEREK BAKER totaled 121 receiving yards to lead all receivers.

Cape Fear 58, CHARLESTON 51 (Attendance: 2,905): KENTON RICKERSON'S pick-off on the final Charleston drive ruined the Swamp Foxes (3-4) comeback bid, as the Wildcats (5-1) won its fourth straight game. Cape Fear quarterback BRYAN SNYDER threw for 282 yards and six touchdowns, with wide receiver ANTHONY HINES, Ironman of the Game, catching three of them. Hines totaled 120 yards in receptions

FLORIDA 40, Columbus 7 (Attendance: 5,111): The Firecats (3-4) held the Wardogs (2-4) scoreless until the final minute of the game. MAGIC BENTON and game Ironman CAINON LAMB each caught two touchdowns from game MVP KEN MASTROLE, who threw five total touchdowns. Defensive specialist ROY STABLER had seven tackles and one fumble recovery. Columbus' seven points is tied (eight other instances) for the fourth lowest single-game total in af2 history. There has only been on shutout in af2 history.

MEMPHIS 68, Louisville 20 (Attendance: 3,438): Quarterback ROD ROBINSON passed for four touchdowns and ran for two more as the Xplorers (2-5) backed up its guarantee of a win over the Fire (3-4). Memphis outscored Louisville 40-6 in the second half en route to a season high 68 points and busted a four-game losing skid. Game MVP ADRIAN BURNETTE grabbed six receptions for 81 yards and two touchdowns for the Xplorers.

PEORIA 63, Greensboro 37 (Attendance: 5,472): Game MVP JACK WALKER caught five passes, all for touchdowns, to lead the Pirates (3-4) past the Prowlers (3-4). Leading 32-16 at halftime, the Pirates put the game out of reach in the second half, as quarterback CHARLIE PETERSON and Walker connected on touchdowns of 24 and 38 yards early in the third quarter. Peterson completed 23-of-33 passes for 238 yards and 7 touchdowns with no interceptions. Offensive specialist JURRON KELLY added 11 receptions for 93 yards and two touchdowns in his Pirates' debut.

TENNESSEE VALLEY 56, Macon 36 (Attendance: 5,675): The Vipers (6-0) built an early 14-0 lead and never looked back against the Knights (5-2) to stay perfect on the season. Game MVP MATT SAUK threw for 231 yards and five touchdowns in the Vipers' win. Offensive specialist JACQUES RUMPH had eight receptions for a game high 155 yards and three touchdowns for the Knights. The Vipers are 6-0 for the third straight season.

TULSA 49, Bossier City 28 (Attendance: 4,122): Game MVP CRAIG STRICKLAND passed for five touchdowns and ran for two more as the Talons (6-1) cruised past the Battle Wings (2-5). The game was tied at 21 going into the half, but the Talons took command the rest of the way, outscoring the Battle Wings 28-7 in the second half. Tulsa's MITCH ALLNER had a season high nine catches for 100 yards and was named the game's Ironman. The Talons defense sacked Bossier City quarterback SHERARD POTEETE five times on the night.

Arkansas 44, BAKERSFIELD 37 (Attendance: 3,722): KAHLIL CARTER'S five-yard interception return for a touchdown with 55 seconds left in the game busted a 37-37 tie between the Twisters (4-3) and Blitz (1-6). Game MVP KEVIN WLLIAMS (Arkansas) had five receptions for 86 yards and two touchdowns to lead all receivers. Offensive specialist TED ALFORD had a 52-yard missed field goal touchdown return for the Twisters, who have won two straight.

SAN DIEGO 62, Cincinnati 42 (Attendance: 5,297): The Riptide (4-3) used two early safeties by Game MVP HENRY STEPHENS and three touchdowns from Game Ironman ALTIE PARKER to top the Swarm (3-4). Defensive Specialist KENNY HASLIP earned his second ADT Defensive Player of the Game honor after nearly stopping one of the top offensive threats in the af2, JAMES SCOTT, by recording 8.5 stops and breaking up eight passes. The Riptide's other starting DS, Kevin Burton, tallied 6.0 tackles, broke up five passes and intercepted a pass.
