August 3, 2021 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release

The Indoor Football League announced the Week 15 Players of the Week on Tuesday, August 3. Arizona Rattlers quarterback Drew Powell earned his second Offensive Player of the Week nod on the year, while Massachusetts Pirates defensive back Santos Ramirez was named Defensive Player of the Week and Spokane Shock kicker Sawyer Petre was named Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season.

DREW POWELL - OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Arizona quarterback Drew Powell strengthened his MVP candidacy with another strong performance in Week 15 against the Duke City Gladiators. Powell completed 12-of-16 passes for 117 yards for two touchdowns and rushed 11 times for 95 yards and five touchdowns to seal a 60-48 victory over the Gladiators. Powell leads the IFL in rushing with 756 yards on the season and 29 total rushing touchdowns. He also ranks fourth in the IFL in total passing yards with 1,418 and fifth in passing touchdowns with 23.

SANTOS RAMIREZ - DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Massachusetts defensive back Santos Ramirez earned his first Defensive Player of the Week recognition after a stand-out performance against the Spokane Shock. Ramirez finished with seven total tackles, all solo, with one tackle for loss, a forced fumble, and an interception. In the first quarter with 9:47 remaining, the Shock started their second possession of the game on their own 14-yard line and on the first play, Ramirez forced a fumble four yards behind the line of scrimmage which was recovered in the endzone, setting the tone for a hard-fought game. The Pirates would go on to win it in overtime over the Shock, 63-57.

SAWYER PETRE - SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Spokane kicker Sawyer Petre earned his second Special Teams Player of the Week honor on the season, making key plays for his team down the stretch against the Massachusetts Pirates. Petre was 6-6 on extra points, 2-2 on field goals, and recorded a deuce in the fourth quarter to force overtime. With nine seconds remaining in the game, the Shock scored a rushing touchdown but failed on the two-point conversion attempt that would have tied the game, leaving Spokane down 50-48. Petre then drilled the 50-yard deuce to tie the game and send it into overtime. The Shock would eventually fall in overtime to the Pirates, 63-57.

This week Powell and the Rattlers host the Tucson Sugar Skulls in a Week 16 in-state rivalry game, while Ramirez and the Pirates head back to Massachusetts for a matchup with the Green Bay Blizzard. Petre and the Shock hit the road for their second meeting with the Frisco Fighters, which will be the IFL Game of the Week.
