Pirates Rise up into Top Two After Week 15 in Coaches Poll
August 3, 2021 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release
With three weeks remaining in the 2021 regular season, the Massachusetts Pirates make a jump to the second spot in the coaches poll for the first time this season. The Arizona Rattlers remain at the top, with the Frisco Fighters falling to third and the Spokane Shock to fourth.
Now on a five-game winning streak, Massachusetts finds itself in prime position for a top-seed in the playoffs. In Week 15, the Pirates took down the Spokane Shock, 63-57, in overtime, and in their previous game defeated the Rattlers, 68-44. In fact, the Pirates have beaten each of the teams ranked with it in the top five of the coaches poll.
The Bismarck Bucks come in at the No. 5 spot after their 41-30 victory over the Green Bay Blizzard to complete the season sweep of their rivals. Bismarck, now with a 7-6 record, has started to distant itself from the rest of the pack with just two regular season games remaining on its schedule.
The coaches panel is represented by the 11 head coaches across the league. Each head coach's ballot includes his ranking of the IFL teams, with first-place votes earning one point, second place two points, and so on to 11 points for 11th-ranked team. The teams are then listed in order, with the team with the fewest points on top.
The entire Coaches Poll is as follows:
Arizona Rattlers (9-2)
Massachusetts Pirates (8-3)
Frisco Fighters (8-2)
Spokane Shock (6-4)
Bismarck Bucks (7-6)
Duke City Gladiators (5-6)
Sioux Falls Storm (5-6)
Green Bay Blizzard (5-6)
Iowa Barnstormers (4-5)
Tucson Sugar Skulls (4-7)
Northern Arizona Wranglers (1-10)
