Week 10: Sunday Matchup

May 31, 2008 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

AMARILLO DUSTERS (4-4) AT AUSTIN WRANGLERS (3-5)

SUNDAY, JUNE 1, 2008 - Frank Erwin Center (14,866) 4:00 P.M. ET

Week 10 concludes on Sunday when the Amarillo Dusters travel to Austin to take on the Wranglers in the second head-to-head matchup between the two teams in 2008. Amarillo got the best of Austin in the first meeting with a 65-40 home win in Week 3. The Dusters, currently ranked No. 13 in the latest league coaches poll, enter this week well rested after a bye during Memorial Day weekend. Amarillo hopes the time off will pay dividends as the team is looking to snap a current two-game losing streak. The Dusters most recent result was a 40-31 road loss at Stockton in Week 8. WR Jim Lukowiak, who entered the game with an af2-high 18 touchdown catches, led Amarillo with 110 receiving yards on 12 catches, but was held without a touchdown catch for the first time this season. QB JOEL STEELE, in his first start since Week 1, completed 27-of-42 passes for 244 yards, four touchdowns with one interception. Amarillo let a 28-19 lead after three quarters slip away as the Dusters were outscored 21-3 by the Lightning in the final 15 minutes. JOSH MAYFIELD led Amarillo's defense in defeat with a team-high 5.0 tackles with 2.0 sacks. DB AARON WILLIAMS intercepted a pass to increase his team-high total to five. The Dusters offense, which averaged 51 points per game in their first six outings (4-2 record), has stalled of late, averaging just 31.3 points in their last two games. Austin enters this Week 10 tilt after a 62-42 home loss to the No. 2-ranked Spokane Shock. The Wranglers were roped by the Shock's strong defensive effort which forced three interceptions, four sacks, and one fumble. Austin QB Andy Hall had a tough night against Spokane. The rookie signal caller, now 3-2 as the team's starter, completed 28-of-52 passes for 301 yards with five touchdowns, and three interceptions. He was also sacked four times and pressured on numerous other occasions. Hall ran most of his offense through WR Sean Henley and John Roberson who combined for 23 catches (Henley - 13, Roberson - 10) and four touchdowns. Roberson leads the league in receptions (72) and receiving yards (988) and is tied for the af2 lead with 22 touchdown receptions. DB DEMETRIE MCCRAY (team-best 5 INTs) and DL ESTUS HOOD (7.5 tackles for loss, 6 sacks - both team-highs) are Austin's top playmakers on defense. After an 0-3 start, the Wranglers have started to come together with Hall leading the offense. If he rebounds well from last week's outing, this game should be highly competitive from start to finish.
