Week 10: Game Previews
June 24, 2021 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release
Approaching week ten, The Indoor Football League has five games slated for this weekend starting on Friday, June 25. The IFL Game of the Week on Stadium will feature the Northern Arizona Wranglers (0-5) looking for their first victory of the season against the Tucson Sugar Skulls (1-3) on Saturday, June 26, at 7 p.m. CT. You can watch the rest of the games on the IFL's YouTube page.
IOWA BARNSTORMERS AT GREEN BAY BLIZZARD - FRIDAY, JUNE 25, 7:05 P.M. CT
Coming off their fourth win of the season and second against rival Sioux Falls, the Iowa Barnstormers (4-2) will travel to Green Bay to face the Blizzard (3-4) on Friday to start the back half of the season schedule.
Iowa, now scheduled to play 12 games total in 2021, looks to keep the momentum that brought them the win against the Storm a week ago.
The Barnstormers, at 4-2, now sit in sole possession of the fourth seed in the IFL - if the playoffs started today. The top four seeds in the league will host first round playoff games.
To weather the Blizzard, Iowa's defense will have to limit the productivity of receiving duo Eric Thomas Jr. and Keshaun Taylor. The duo has combined for 14 touchdowns on the season and average 74 yards of production per game.
The defensive unit has been the key to whether Iowa will win or lose a game on any given week this season.
SPOKANE SHOCK AT ARIZONA RATTLERS - FRIDAY, JUNE 25, 9:05 P.M. CT
The Shock earned their fourth-straight win against the Northern Arizona Wranglers with a convincing offensive performance. Quarterback Charles McCullum earned his second IFL Offensive Player of the Week honors in back-to-back week after throwing 13-15 passes for 164 yards and six total touchdowns.
Wide receiver Jordan Jolly was the primary target as he caught seven receptions for 85 yards and three touchdowns.
Arizona tied their season-high scoring total in a 51-36 win over the Duke City Gladiators in their first IFL meeting.
Quarterback Drew Powell brought a more balanced attack against the Gladiators defense, throwing for three touchdowns and running for another two. His season total of 13 rushing touchdowns leads the IFL after nine weeks.
TUCSON SUGAR SKULLS AT NORTHERN ARIZONA WRANGLERS - SATURDAY, JUNE 26, 7 P.M. CT
Tucson quarterback Demry Croft led the team in both passing (146 yds) and rushing (50 yds) last week against the Massachusetts Pirates. In that game, Croft found the end zone four times: twice through the air and added another two on the ground. The Sugar Skulls QB1 is currently third in the IFL in rushing yards per game and sixth in passing yards per game. This makes Croft one of only two QBs in the IFL to rank top-6 in both categories.
Sugar Skulls running back Mike Jones continued his steady production with both a rushing (7) and receiving (3) TD last week. Jones is fourth in the IFL in total scoring and sixth in total TDs this season.
The Northern Arizona Wranglers (0-5) are still searching for their first win as an IFL franchise. The Wranglers own the league's worst offense (27.4 ppg) and the ninth-best defense (49.8 ppg). Northern Arizona's wide receiver corps is anchored by Keyvan Rudd (5 TDs). Rudd currently leads the IFL in receiving yards per game (67 yds) and is third in total receiving yards (335 yds).
FRISCO FIGHTERS AT DUKE CITY GLADIATORS - SATURDAY, JUNE 26, 7:05 P.M. CT
Although disappointing, last week's cancellation gave the Fighters an extra weekend to recover from injuries and prepare for the Gladiators.
One focus of this preparation is stopping the Davis-to-Davis connection. Last matchup, quarterback Nate Davis connected with wide receiver Dello Davis on six touchdown passes. Dello Davis totaled 136 yards on ten receptions.
Although Dello Davis is the focal point of the Gladiators' offense, Frisco has its own set of weapons. Running back DeMarcus Felton scored five touchdowns against Duke City's defense, four rushing and one receiving, for a total of 114 yards.
Heading into game five, the Fighters are prepared and hungry for their fifth win.
BISMARCK BUCKS AT SIOUX FALLS STORM - SATURDAY, JUNE 26, 7:05 P.M. CT
The Storm look to get back in the win column after suffering two back-to-back losses, last week to the Iowa Barnstormers. In that game, quarterbacks Tommy Armstrong completed 9 of 14 passes for 111 yards and three touchdowns along with 20 rushing yards while Lorenzo Brown completed 9 of 17 passes for 79 yards along with 21 rushing yards.
Running back Nate Chavious had 23 rushing yards and three touchdowns along with 14 receiving yards. Wide receivers Brandon Sheperd had 89 reception yards and one touchdown along with 18 rushing yards and one touchdown, Jordan Smith had 27 reception yards and one touchdown, Alonzo Moore had 26 reception yards and one touchdown and Damian Ford had 17 reception yards.
Linebacker Marquis Hendrix led the Thunder Defense with seven total tackles. Defensive linemen Gershom Ejoni had two tackles for loss and Ricky McCoy had one tackle for loss. Defensive back Jermaine Robinson had one pass break-up. Kicker Chase Vinatieri made five out of five extra points.
