Sacramento Capitals News Release

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (January 24, 2013) - The six-time Mylan World TeamTennis champion Sacramento Capitals are pleased to announce that coach Wayne Bryan will return to lead the squad for the 2013 season, his 12th with the team.

"I'm absolutely thrilled with this opportunity to again coach the Caps," said Bryan, who is also the father and coach of his famous tennis pro twins sons, Mike and Bob, generally considered to be the greatest doubles team of all time. "I know of the organization's historic commitment to winning and the stands are always packed with our enthusiastic fans for each match. It's the best franchise in the league. No doubt."

The former UCSB star and recent inductee into the Santa Barbara Hall of Fame is ready to avenge Sacramento's loss to the Washington Kastles in the 2012 WTT Finals. "We are after the Washington Kastles! After defeating Orange County in the Mylan WTT semis in Charleston last September, 25-15, we lost a heartbreaker to the Kastles, 20-19. I still haven't gotten over that match."

The team is yet to be assembled officially, however Coach Bryan said, "We think we have a good shot at getting Sam Querrey - who is just about at #20 in the world - back for the full season, and I'm hoping Knowlzee (Mark Knowles), three-time Mylan WTT MVP, will come back and help us in our quest for the title."

"We like Wayne because he is a great promoter for the sport," said Capitals General Manager Kolleen McNamee. "In addition to being an experienced and accomplished coach, he is also able to do other things that other coaches aren't able to bring to the table."

"When I was a club pro, I always made sure I took our members and juniors to see college matches and World TeamTennis," said Bryan. "It was such an exciting atmosphere. I loved the music, the rooting, the on court coaching and the team uniforms. I always do my darndest to bring every ounce of energy and enthusiasm I have to the team and our wonderful fans in the Sacramento area."

Bryan's accomplishments in tennis have not gone unnoticed in the past few years, as he was named one of the "35 Most Powerful People in Tennis" by Racquet Magazine, "Coach of the Year" by the Southern California USPTA, and "Pro of the Year" by Wilson Sporting Goods and the USPTR. In addition to the coaching aspect, Bryan is a tireless promoter for the Capitals representing the team in numerous clinics, events and media interviews. Bryan has honed his skills in promotion by speaking for Prince, K-Swiss, the USTA, the USPTA and the USPTR, and emceeing in large tennis stadiums all over the country.

Bryan's efforts over the years also have been noticed by the executives of Mylan WTT. "Wayne has done so much for tennis and he is a great ambassador for the sport and Mylan World TeamTennis," said Mylan WTT Vice President, Player Recruiting & League Operations, Samantha Shaw. "His energy and enthusiasm for the game certainly reflects our vision and what we think tennis should be about."

McNamee added that fans can look for the Wayne Bryan Band to play some late night gigs at local restaurants after the Caps' home matches.

The Capitals' full season schedule and roster will be announced in early March with season tickets going on sale at that time. For more information, log on to www.saccaps.com.
