The Patriots scored the go-ahead goal early in the second half and prevailed despite a two-man disadvantage for the last 11 minutes on a warm, wind-swept night at the Sun Bowl. El Paso tallied first in the 20th minute on a header from Laurence Andrade off a left-wing serve from Junro Narita. Wave United battled back to tie the game in the 44th on a goal from Greg Howes, who blasted in a shot from 15 yards out after receiving a long cross from John Ball. The Patriots regained the lead in the 48th on a shot from the top of the penalty area by Mike Griego. Milwaukee failed to convert on a goal mouth header by Ball in the 70th minute before gaining a two-man advantage by virtue of ejection of El Paso defenders of Pablo Cabrera (80) and David De La Torre (82). Despite the advantage, Wave United created just one quality opportunity in the remaining time (including three minutes of stoppage time), a 12-yard blast off the post by midfielder Josh Timbers.

Wave United rebounded from Friday's setback to edge the Patriots 1-0 in overtime on John Ball's goal three minutes into the extra session. Both teams battled through the heat (97 degrees at game time) on the Sun Bowl's artificial pitch, which did not become fully encompassed with shade until the 70th minute. Milwaukee had the best chance late in the first half when Todd Dusosky's re-direction of a goal mouth cross from Chad Dombrowski went just wide. El Paso nearly converted in the 61st when Mike Griego pushed a shot wide from five yards out after Wave United goalkeeper Jeff Richey, who was making his first start of the season, fumbled a cross from Junro Narita. The game-winning play started when Troy Dusosky won the ball from two Patriots on the left sideline at midfield. Dusosky got up off the turf after making a tackle and then dribbled forward for about 20 yards before laying the ball off to John Ball. Ball dribbled to the end line before cutting back to the top of the penalty area where he unleashed a low bouncing shot the eluded El Paso goalkeeper Scott Alexander. It was Milwaukee's first overtime contest of the season.
