Last Week's Recap:
Fri. 8/22 @ Atlanta Wave United 3, Silverbacks 1 Attendance: 1,202
Nick Walls and Jeremy Aldrich each scored goals in the first six minutes to jump start the Wave United offense as Milwaukee went on to defeat the Atlanta Silverbacks 3-1 before 1,202 fans at DeKalb Memorial Stadium. Walls scored his sixth of the year in the third minute on a left-footed blast from the top of the penalty area while Aldrich buried his first of the season in the sixth minute to give Milwaukee a 2-0 lead.
Todd Dusosky tallied his team-leading 10th of the year when he scored on a header off a throw-in from Chris Moman in the 37th minute.
Atlanta's bid to get back in the game was hampered by the 48th minute ejection of defender Byron Mitchell. Mitchell was excused after picking up his second yellow card caution forcing the Silverbacks to play a man down the rest of the night. Nevertheless, the Silverbacks held Milwaukee scoreless for the remainder of the game while adding a goal of their own on a 70th minute conversion by Shakar Asad.
Jim Larkin had four saves to even his record (9-9-0) for Milwaukee. Bryheem Hancock (4-16-4) also had four for Atlanta.
Sat. 8/23 @ Charlotte Eagles 2, Wave United 0 Attendance: 1,134
Milwaukee and Charlotte battled through 86 minutes of scoreless play before second half substitute Jacob Ward broke the deadlock with his first goal of the year. Ward, who had entered the game just one minute earlier, scored on a turning left footed shot from 20 yards out after taking a feed from Nate Watkins, who had gained possession of a Wave United throw-in near midfield.
Jose Gomez added his fourth goal of the season a minute later on a counter attack following the Wave United kick-off. With Milwaukee sending virtually everybody forward in an effort to get the tying goal, Charlotte gained possession at midfield and eventually scored on a three-on-one advantage as Gomez buried a shot from six yards out off a left-side cross from Watkins toward the right post.
Goalkeeper Chris McClellan avenged an earlier loss to Milwaukee (2-0 on 5/16) by stopping four-of-15 shots faced. Counterpart Jeff Richey suffered his first loss of the season (the first of his two-year professional career) despite making a team-high nine saves.
Notes: *Wave United established a new season high (and an all-time Milwaukee A-League record) by scoring five goals in the first half v. Cin on 8/15. The previous team mark for a half was four v. Por on 6/8.
*Wave United enters this week's action as the second highest scoring team in the league with 51 goals. (Rochester has 53). The all-time Milwaukee A-League record for goals scored in a season is 69 by the 2000 Rampage.
*Goalkeeper Jim Larkin has six shutouts so far this season which is third on Milwaukee's all-time A-League shutout list. The single season record for Milwaukee A-League goalkeeper shutouts is eight set last season by current LA Galaxy goalkeeper Dan Popik.
*Forward Todd Dusosky scored the first goal in Wave United history (46th minute from Jeremy Aldrich on 5/23 v. Charlotte) and the fastest goal in Milwaukee A-League history when he found the back of the net just 44 seconds into the match on 8/3 v. Ind. He is currently tops the Wave United scoring list with 27 points (ten goals, seven assists) along with Greg Howes, who has nine goals and nine assists for 27 points.
*Forward Greg Howes has scored at least one goal in seven of his last twelve outings, including the U.S. Open Cup matches against the Bavarians (7/23) and the Chicago Fire (8/6). He has also scored 21 points (seven goals, seven assists) in his last ten regular season games.
*Rookie forward / midfielder Nick Walls has scored all six of his goals in a nine-game stretch from 7/19 â 8/23. He picked up his first assist on 8/15 v. Cin.
*Midfielder Dino Delevski has had two multi-goal games so far this season: 6/8 v. Por (two goals) and 8/3 v. Ind (two goals). Other multi-goal scorers include Todd Dusosky (three v. Ind on 6/29), Greg Howes (two v. Bavarians on 7/23, two v. EP on 7/27, and two v. Cin on 8/15), Digital Takawira (two v. Ind on 8/3), and Nick Walls (two @ Cal on 8/9).
*Forward Digital Takawira's two goals on 8/3 v. Ind were his first two A-League tallies this season. He is Milwaukee's all-time A-League goal scoring leader with 40. Takawira still ranks third on the Kansas City Wizards (MLS) all-time list with 28 goals from 1996-99.
*Midfielder Steve Bernal was forced to leave the 7/23 match v. the Bavarians with a left knee injury sustained in the 78th minute. He has not played since.
*Wave United's 3-2 win @ Cin on 7/19 was the 100th regular season victory in Milwaukee A-League History (1997-Present)

*Midfielder Matt Schmidt is the only player to start every game so far this season.
*Defender Troy Dusosky started every game until missing the last two (8/22 and 8/23) due to a toe injury.

Hammes played every minute of every game from 5/23 â 8/9, a span of 22 games including the two U.S. Open Cup matches.
