Milwaukee Wave News Release

MILWAUKEE, WI (December 2, 2005) - Milwaukee Wave Vice President of Soccer Operations and Head Coach Keith Tozer announced today that the team has placed veteran defender, Lovelace Ackah, on the Injured Reserve with a fifth metatarsal fracture of his left foot. Also today, the Wave announced that they have signed Cedarburg, WI, native Joe Hammes to a two-year contract.

Hammes is entering his third season with the Milwaukee Wave. Last season he built on his rookie year and scored three goals and passed for six assists with 34 blocks in 37 games. He has played in 62 career games with the Wave and has totaled 10 points and 47 blocks in that time. Hammes was drafted by Milwaukee in the 2003 MISL Amateur Draft after his successful college career at St. Louis University. The 26-year-old played soccer for Marquette University High School, where he was a NSCAA All-American, Wisconsin Coaches State Player of the Year, All-Midwest Region, and Milwaukee Journal Sentinel All-Area.

"It's great to have Joe back; especially with Lovelace on the Injured Reserve," Keith Tozer said. "Joe has a couple years of experience with us and brings a lot to our back line. He's going to be a great contributor to what we're trying to accomplish on defense."

Ackah has been placed on the Injured Reserved with a fifth metatarsal fracture on his left foot. He is scheduled to have surgery on Friday and is expected to be out 4-8 weeks. The six-year veteran played in the team's first three games before sitting out last week's game against California. Ackah was named the MISL's Defensive Player of the Week for the season's opening weekend. He has been a consistent presence on the Wave's defense and registered three blocks in his three games this season.

The Milwaukee Wave was established in 1984 as one of six charter members of the American Indoor Soccer Association (AISA). In 2001, the Wave transitioned to being a successful member of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL). Through the guidance of head coach Keith Tozer, the winningest coach in Wave and North American indoor soccer history, the Wave has won four league titles (1997-98, 1999-00, 2000-01, 2004-05), seven regular season championships, and has made seven championship series appearances. The Wave plays at home in the US Cellular Arena located in downtown Milwaukee.
