Watts Named Pitcher of the Week

DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Wichita Wingnuts RHP Dakota Watts (pictured) has been named this week's Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 19.

Watts saved three games in four relief appearances for the Wingnuts this week. His first appearance came Tuesday night at home against the Joplin Blasters. In two innings of work, Watts struck out two batters with no hits or runs allowed. He earned the win as Wichita walked off 4-3. Watts then proceeded to save three games from Wednesday through Saturday. In Wednesday's series opener at the Grand Prairie AirHogs, Watts worked an inning, allowing a hit and a walk, but striking out a batter and preserving a 5-2 win. The Wingnuts won again on Friday, and Watts capped it off by striking out the side in the ninth in a 7-4 triumph. Watts' final appearance on the week was on Saturday evening, when he worked another scoreless inning in the Wingnuts' 4-2 win over Grand Prairie and earned the save.

On the year, Watts is now 2-0 with no ERA in seven games in a Wingnuts uniform. He has four saves. In eight innings, the Oroville, Calif. resident has eight strikeouts. He has also pitched for the Grand Prairie AirHogs this season, going 1-0 with a 2.53 in nine relief outings.

Watts is in his second year in the American Association after five seasons in the Minnesota Twins' organization. He spent time at AA New Britain over parts of four seasons from 2010-2013. His best season was 2012, when he was 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA.

The Wingnuts are now in first place in the South Division at 32-23. They continue a home series with the Sioux Falls Canaries tonight at 7:05 p.m. Central time at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
