Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Fink Lets Them Fly

Michael Fink was willing to shoot the puck last weekend, and he was rewarded. The second-year Black Hawk took a total of ten shots on goal against Sioux Falls and Chicago. He scored a goal and assisted on two others. Fink was playing with Brock Montpetit and Ben Miller. He has missed a dozen games this year after also suffering through injuries as a rookie in 2007-2008.

A "Special" January

The Black Hawks worked for a 6-4-2 record during a busy January. Five of six victories were earned in front of crowds at Young Arena. Special teams were an important factor in Waterloo's success. Waterloo went 14-for-63 on the power play, or 22.2%, while stopping opposing teams in 65-of-74 penalty-killing situations, or 87.8%. During one stretch, the Hawks stopped 19 consecutive opposing power plays. For the season, Waterloo ranks fourth in the USHL on the power play (18.6%) and fifth on the penalty kill (83.8%).

Veterans Carried Hawks Last Month

January was a great individual month for several Black Hawks. Craig Smith led the team with 18 points on four goals and 14 assists. It was the largest point total he has accumulated in a calendar month during his two-and-a-half season USHL career. Brock Montpetit and Patrick Wey also each had ten points, their best months during more than a year in Waterloo. Nick Larson had five goals and four assists, matching personal-bests from February and March of 2008.
