Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Homecoming

Following five consecutive road games, the Waterloo Black Hawks return to Young Arena this weekend to host the Omaha Lancers on Friday. The matchup will mark the Lancers' second trip to Waterloo this year and the third meeting between the teams after the Hawks claimed two October contests. At Young Arena, Waterloo owns a 5-1-0 record, and is one of four USHL teams with just one home loss. The Dubuque Fighting Saints are currently the only undefeated home team (5-0-0). The Hawks return to the road Saturday to extend the league's longest uninterrupted annual rivalry. Waterloo and the Sioux City Musketeers have been meeting since 1971.

Debuts in Detail

Mike Huntebrinker played in his first game of the season last Friday in Omaha. The second-year forward who recorded 17 goals and 17 assists in 2011/12 had two points in his initial appearance of the new campaign. He added an assist Saturday versus the Des Moines Buccaneers. Forward Austin Vieth and defensemen Rhodes Dolan and Hunter Warner also made their USHL debuts Friday. Vieth and Warner each notched the first point during their respective careers in the league on Saturday.

Streak Superlatives

After eight wins, the Waterloo Black Hawks' victory streak ended with a 5-3 decision against Des Moines last weekend. The roll was the longest for the Hawks during a regular season since the club claimed eight consecutive wins from February 8 to March 7, 2003, in coach P.K. O'Handley's first year. The loss also ended a string of six straight regular season road wins dating back to the final away contest in 2011/12. The Hawks had not won six straight non-playoff games as the visiting team since 1984.
