Washington Stealth Signs Free Agent Forward Andrew Potter
August 10, 2011 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Washington Stealth News Release
Everett, Wash. - The Washington Stealth announced today the signing of free agent forward Andrew Potter, pending approval from the National Lacrosse League. Potter was originally drafted by the Rochester Knighthawks in the first round of the 2007 NLL Entry Draft and joins the Stealth for his fourth NLL season this winter.
Potter, 23, has spent the last three seasons fighting for a regular roster spot, appearing in just five games during his NLL career. He played in two games for Rochester during his rookie season followed by one appearance in 2009 with the Colorado Mammoth. He returned to Rochester in 2010 and appeared in two games. He has two goals and 18 loose balls in his NLL career.
The left-handed forward has shown tremendous potential however, as he has enjoyed a stellar summer season with the Langley Thunder of the Western Lacrosse Association. In 18 regular season games, Potter tallied 50 points on 23 goals and 27 assists. He's played an instrumental role in the Thunder's run to the WLA finals, recording ten points (2g, 8a) in the team's four-game sweep of the Victoria Shamrocks in a semifinal series last week. It's that type of production that has Stealth Head Coach Chris Hall excited to see Potter at training camp later this fall.
"Andrew is a very versatile player that continues to improve year by year," said Hall. "He's flown under the radar a bit and we are lucky to have signed him. He was a first round draft pick for a reason and he is showing signs now that he can be a very good player in the NLL."
Potter's insurgence in the WLA this summer comes as no surprise to those that have followed his young career. As a player in the Ontario Lacrosse Association's Junior 'A' circuit, Potter was named a first team All-Star after leading the league in scoring in 2009. He played half the season with each St. Catherine's and Brampton, appearing in 22 games total and recording 125 points (51g, 74a).
Potter will join the Stealth for training camp later this fall with hopes of being named to the 23-man active roster for the 2012 season, which begins in January. Season tickets for the 2012 Stealth season start at just $99 and are on sale now. For more information, visit www.stealthlax.com or call 877-MY-75-TIX.
