Washington Stealth Begins Signing Players for 2012 Season

Everett, Wash. - One day after solidifying its coaching staff for the 2012 season, the Washington Stealth has begun signing players to bring to training camp later this fall. Two familiar names for Stealth fans, Cam Sedgwick and Curtis Hodgson, have each been signed on for their eighth season with the Stealth, while the most recent addition to the team's roster, Kyle Ross, has agreed to a one-year deal as well. All contracts are pending approval by the National Lacrosse League.

Sedgwick, a Vancouver, B.C. native, has played in all but four games in eight seasons with the Stealth. He's ranked among the top ten on the Stealth's all-time regular season record list in games played (5th, 107), points (4th, 333), goals (7th, 114), assists (3rd, 220) and loose balls (10th, 387). In ten NLL seasons, Sedgwick has accumulated 406 points (139g, 267a) in 133 regular season games.

In 2011, the left-handed forward finished with 48 points (18g, 30a) during the regular season and added nine points (2g, 7a) in the Stealth's three playoff games. He tallied two goals and two assists in the Stealth's 14-8 victory against the Minnesota Swarm in the first round of the 2011 playoffs.

"He brings a sense of calmness to our offense when things get hectic on the floor," said Stealth Head Coach Chris Hall of Sedgwick, who has been an assistant captain for the team in each of the last two seasons. "He's a quiet leader, but when the game is on the line, he's a guy that isn't afraid to step up when his team needs it by scoring or creating big goals."

Hodgson has played all eight of his NLL seasons with the Stealth, appearing in 111 of a possible 112 regular season games, good for second place on the team's all-time list. He also ranks ninth all-time with 394 loose balls and has added 67 career points (24g, 43a) as a staple on the Stealth's defensive unit. In 2011, Hodgson appeared in all 16 regular season games, recording seven assists and 41 loose balls and added ten loose balls during the playoffs.

"You can't buy the experience that Curtis Hodgson brings to our back end," said Hall. "He's a great leader on the floor and in the dressing room and a guy that commands a lot of respect from his teammates."

Ross was acquired by the Stealth earlier this week in a trade with the Toronto Rock. The 6'3", 190 pound defenseman will enter his sixth NLL season as a member of the Stealth. Ross was a member of the Toronto Rock squad that ousted the Stealth in the 2011 NLL Championship game. He played in 15 regular season games and all three playoff games for the Rock a season ago, recording six points (1g, 5a) and 60 loose balls. In his career, the New Westminster, British Columbia native has played in 62 regular season games, tallying 39 points (10g, 29a).

"We have been trying to acquire Kyle for a while," said Hall following the trade. "He adds toughness and athleticism to our defense and brings the ball up the floor hard in transition. He is a very exciting addition to our team as we look to bring another NLL title to Washington."

All three players will be with the Stealth when the team begins training camp for the 2012 season later this fall. NLL teams are allowed to invite 36 players to training camp, with the active roster cut down to 23 players before the regular season begins in January.
