Washington Spirit News Release
Washington, D.C. - The Washington Spirit has agreed to terms with forward Brittany Ratcliffe on a three-year contract, the club announced today.
Ratcliffe entered the NWSL in 2016, being drafted by the Boston Breakers. After spending her rookie season with Boston, Ratcliffe signed with FC Kansas City in 2017 and stayed with the club through moves to Utah in 2018 and back to Kansas City in 2021. She signed with the North Carolina Courage in May 2021, remaining with the side through the 2023 season. Across 77 regular season appearances, Ratcliffe has seen 2,967 minutes of playing time and tallied six goals and two assists.
"I've always admired the professionalism of the Spirit organization and it's been cool to see Michele Kang and the club do great things for the players both on and off the field," said Ratcliffe. "Mark Krikorian and the staff have been awesome through this entire process and the team is made up of really incredible players who I cannot wait to meet. The DC area has always held a special place in my heart and I can't wait to be a part of the community, meet the amazing fans, and most importantly, represent the Washington Spirit! Let's go Spirit!"
Originally from Williamstown, New Jersey southeast of Philadelphia, Ratcliffe attended the University of Virginia, where she played for the Cavaliers for four seasons. Ratcliffe earned Third Team All-ACC honors and was named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll in each of her final two seasons in Charlottesville.
"We expect Brittany to be a important part of this year's team," said President of Soccer Operations/General Manager Mark Krikorian. "As a veteran of this league, she has been able to contribute to the success of several trophy-winning teams and we're excited to have her with the Spirit."
