Utah Warriors News Release

West Valley City, UT – The Utah Warriors moved to 4-1 on the season as they held on to knock off the Black Hills Red Dogs (0-5) 56-53 on Saturday night at the E-Center. In a game that was dominated by offense, the key play was a defensive stand. On the game's final play Warriors' defensive lineman Cazzie Brown and linebacker Kautai Olevao corralled Red Dog running back Mike Scott on the Utah 2-yard line as time expired. Black Hills had scored on seven straight possessions, but faltered down the stretch, failing to score on two of their final three.

Utah gained their final lead of the game when Omar Bacon scampered five yards around the left side for a touchdown with 1:03 remaining. Black Hills then marched down the field before being stopped at the two. The game featured 534 yards of total offense and 15 touchdowns, including two kickoff returns for touchdowns.

Emmett White was named the Mountain America Credit Union MVP of the game after his outstanding performance. White finished with six receptions for 133 yards and two touchdowns. He also had four kick returns for 109 yards and one score. White finished the game with 242 all purpose yards. Doug Smith finished 14x26 for a career-high 251 yards and four touchdowns. Smith's streak of consecutive passes without an interception was halted at 61 and he finished the game with three picks.

Scott led Black Hills with 49 rushing yards and seven receptions for 47 yards. He scored twice and had 155 all purpose yards. Terrance Bryant finished 19x28 for 163 yards and four touchdowns.

Dee McCormick led the Warriors with seven tackles, five of which were solo. He also broke-up a Red Dog touchdown pass. Bart Amundson had 6.5 tackles and one for loss. Brown add 1.5 tackles for loss, including the game winner. Pene Talamaivao recorded 4.5 tackles and one sack in his Warriors' debut.

Utah travels to Sioux City for a game with the Bandits next Saturday and returns to the E-Center on May 1 when they host the Wyoming Cavalry for the first of three straight home games.
