Five Warriors Take Six Spots on Pacific West All-Star Team

WEST VALLEY CITY, UT – The National Indoor Football League announced the 2004 divisional all-star teams today, and the Utah Warriors were strongly represented on the Pacific West team. Five players were named to the team and Emmett White was selected in two positions. They players whom were selected are:

White made the team as a receiver and kick returner. He finished the 2004 season with 67 catches for 847 yards and had 21 receiving touchdowns. White averaged 60.5 yards per game and 12.6 yards per catch this season. He also ran the ball 43 times for 140 yards and six more touchdowns. As a kick returner, White led the Pacific Conference with his 24.1 kick return average. He had 1,204 yards on 50 kick returns and scored once. He also had two Missed Field Goal returns for 38 yards. White concluded the season with 2,229 all purpose yards and a team best 28 touchdowns.

Omar Bacon was named the division's top running back after finishing the year with a team record 376 yards on 125 carries. Bacon also scored 17 rushing touchdowns and averaged 34.2 yards per game, all while playing in only 11 games due to a season ending wrist injury. He also had 31 receptions for 267 yards and seven scores.

Wes Amitoelau and John Watson made the team as offensive linemen. Amitoelau played in 12 games while Watson saw action in 11 games. Both of these players provided a solid front line that helped the Warriors average 240.7 total yards per game, including 171.6 yards passing per game.

Warrior kicker Pete Garces was named the Pacific West's top kicker. Garces finished the season with 117 points, third best on the team. He was 78x87 (89.7%) on his PAT attempts and made 13 of his 30 field goal attempts, including a season best 57-yard kick against the Beaumont Drillers. He made five of his final eight field goal attempts and at one stretch made 24 straight PAT attempts. Garces was named Pacific Conference Special Team Player of the Week three timed during the regular season.

"I'm happy to see this team represented with five players on the All-Division team," head coach Lee Leslie stated. "These guys worked hard all season and earned their way on to this team."

The All-Divison teams were voted on by members of each team's coaching staff and front office and some local media outlets. The players on these teams are now eligible for Conference All-Star honors, with the voting for those teams taking place this week.

The Utah Warriors will open the 2004 NIFL Playoffs at home this Friday night, June 9, at the E-Center against the Tri-City Diesel. Utah is the sixth seed in the Pacific Conference while Tri-City is seeded third, but due to a scheduling conflict the Warriors are going to host this game.
