Warriors' Willms Named WHL Goaltender of the Week
Published on February 12, 2018 under Western Hockey League (WHL) News Release
Calgary, Alta. - The Western Hockey League announced today that Moose Jaw Warriors goaltender Brody Willms has been named WHL Goaltender of the Week and league nominee for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending February 11, 2018.
Willms recorded a pair of shutouts to help the Warriors continued to lead the East Division, Eastern Conference and the entire WHL. Friday, he made 20 saves to shutout the Lethbridge Hurricanes followed by a 15-save performance in a 6-0 blanking of the Kootenay ICE a day later.
A 6-foot-2, 181-pound product of Coquitlam, B.C., Willms was named the second star of Friday's game and the third star of Friday's contest. With Willms in net, the Hurricanes and ICE combined to go 0/5 on the power play. The shutouts were Willms' third and fourth of the season.
Those two games were a small part of what has been a career year for the 19-year-old goaltender. In 41 games, Willms has a 30-7-1-2 record, 2.94 GAA, and .902 SV% along with the aforementioned four shutouts. Originally drafted by the Warriors in the eighth round, 161st overall, of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft, Willms has appeared in 105 career WHL regular season games, accumulating a 55-30-7-2 record, 3.20 GAA, .902 SV% and five shutouts.
This week marks Willms second WHL Goaltender of the Week Award this season after he won back in November 2017. Up next for the Warriors are a series of three straight games against the 2018 Mastercard Memorial Cup host Regina Pats, beginning Wednesday, February 14 (7:00 p.m. CST) and culminating on Sunday, February 18 (2:00 p.m. CST) as part of the Pats' Homecoming Weekend.
