Santa Cruz Warriors News Release
FRISCO, Tex. - The Santa Cruz Warriors defeated the Texas Legends 96-85 Saturday evening, improving to 15-9 on the season and 2-0 on their current road trip.
Ognjen Kuzmic, currently on assignment from the Golden State Warriors, grabbed a Santa Cruz record 22 rebounds, besting Dewayne Dedmon's mark of 21 set on Dec. 17, 2013, against Los Angeles. Kuzmic's 12 offensive boards is also a Santa Cruz record. Daniel Nwaelele led all scorers with 25 points, while Cameron Jones scored 21. Seth Curry scored 16 and dished out eight assists.
Texas was paced by Devin Ebanks, who scored 24 points and had a game-high four steals. Booker Woodfox scored 12 off the bench, while Terrel Harris also chipped in with 12.
The Warriors scored the first five points of the game and remained in control throughout the opening period, extending their lead to 11 in the first quarter. Texas went on a 10-0 run in the second and eventually tied the game at 42 on a P.J. Hairston three-pointer, but Cameron Jones answered with a three and the Warriors took the lead into the intermission. Santa Cruz would never relinquish the lead in the second half, owning as much as a 16-point advantage over Texas in the final frame.
Santa Cruz held the Legends to 33.3% shooting from the field, which is a season-low for a Santa Cruz opponent. The Warriors shot 40.7% from the floor and held the edge on rebounds (58-39) and points in the paint (34-30). Texas committed fewer turnovers (12-20) and had more steals (7-3). Each team had 16 assists.
The Santa Cruz Warriors travel to Boise, Idaho, for Wednesday's game against West Division rival Idaho Stampede, which tips off at 6:00 p.m. Pacific. The team returns home to Kaiser Permanente Arena on Friday to face the Reno Bighorns, and tickets are still available at www.santacruzbasketball.com. Fans can listen to the broadcast on the Santa Cruz Warriors flagship station, KION 1460AM/101.1FM, or catch the game on the NBA D-League's YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/nbadleague.
