Erie, Pennsylvania, Sunday, January 26 - The Erie BayHawks and Iowa Energy squared off in a Sunday matinee at the Erie Insurance Arena this afternoon. Erie's Lewis Jackson snuck behind Iowa's defense for the go-ahead layup with 3.1 seconds left and the BayHawks downed Iowa, 111-110.
Iowa (16-9) got off to a quick start, shooting nearly 60% from the floor in the first quarter as they took a six point advantage into the second frame. Iowa continued to control the game through the second and they held an eight point lead at the intermission.
The Energy extended their lead to 16, their largest of the game on a Glen Rice, Jr. alley-oop dunk with 3:57 left in the third. The BayHawks closed the quarter on a 15-4 run to draw within five points.
Erie's Lewis Jackson took over the game for Erie in the fourth quarter, pouring in 11 points and four assists for the BayHawks. After Iowa's Jackie Carmichael gave the Energy a three point edge with 1:14 left in the game, Erie's Alex Oriakhi's slam dunk brought the BayHawks back within one point with 46.8 seconds remaining. Micah Downs blocked a Kalin Lucas shot with 25.5 seconds remaining and Erie took possession. After moving the ball around the three-point line, Downs found Jackson alone under the basket where he converted the go-ahead layup with 3.1 seconds remaining. The lead was Erie's first since the 3:55 mark of the first quarter. Iowa's Moses Ehambe hoisted a three-point shot at the buzzer that fell short and Erie won, 111-110.
Scott Suggs led Erie's scoring attack with 27 points and seven rebounds. Downs added 22 points and nine rebounds off the bench and Jackson finished with a 15 point, 10 assist double-double for the BayHawks. Rice finished with a game-high 29 for Iowa. He was helped by Ehambe's 23 and 14 points and eight assists from Lucas.
The BayHawks will travel to Springfield on Friday to face the Armor. Iowa will visit Sioux Falls on Thursday for a match-up with the Skyforce.
