Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees News Release

Durham, NC - Friday night's 3-1 win over the Durham Bulls (26-37) marked the first time all season, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (35-27) has swept and opponent over a four game series. It couldn't have happened with yet another stellar performance from Yankee starter Adam Warren. For the second consecutive time the right-hander tossed seven innings of shutout baseball en route to a Scranton/Wilkes-Barre win.

The Yankees jumped out to the early 1-0 lead when Kevin Russo scored on a groundout to shortstop off the bat of Ronnier Mustelier. With two outs in the inning, Colin Curtis drew a bases loaded walk allowing Russell Branyan to trot in from third giving Scranton/Wilkes-Barre the 2-0 advantage. Branyan continued his powerful presence in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre lineup as he crushed his fourth home run in just seven games over the right field wall extending the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre lead to 3-0 in the top half of the third inning.

The Bulls got on the board in the bottom half of the eighth. With runners on first and third, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre reliever Chase Whitley was called for a balk, allowing Shawn O'Malley to jog home. The Whitley balk brought the Bulls within 4-1, however Durham failed to come any closer.

Warren earned his fourth win of the season for the Yankees, as he tossed seven innings of shutout ball allowing just three hits, while striking out four and walking just two. Warren's 14 consecutive scoreless innings is a new season high from a Scranton/Wilkes-Barre pitcher. Kevin Whelan previously held the season high with 11.1 scoreless innings on the bump. Juan Cedeno picked up his second save of the season as he shut the door on the Bulls in the bottom of the ninth. Chris Archer suffered the loss, falling to 3-8 on the season. He allowed three runs on six hits, while walking five and striking out nine.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre returns to Frontier Field in Rochester for an eight game home stand over the next nine days. The Yankees host the Louisville Bats for four games, and then travel to Alliance Bank Stadium in Syracuse for a four game series as the home team. The stretch begins Saturday evening at 7:05 against the Bats. The Yankees send Dellin Betances (3-4, 5.28) to the bump, while the Bats counter with Chad Reineke (1-4, 4.23).
