Ward Released, Davidson Joins BayBears

MOBILE, Ala. - Prior to the start of the Southern League Championship Series tonight at Hank Aaron Stadium between the Mobile BayBears and Tennessee Smokies, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the BayBears have made the following roster moves.
First baseman Daryle Ward has been released by the Diamondbacks. The 36-year old veteran hit .318 for the BayBears in 28 games after he was signed in August to replace Paul Goldschmidt on the BayBears' roster. Ward was 5-for-16 in the playoffs with two RBI.
Replacing Ward is infielder Matt Davidson, who has been called up from Single-A Visalia. Davidson was the 35th overall draft choice in 2009 out of Yucaipa High School in California. He finished the season with 20 home runs and 106 RBI while batting .277 and ripping 39 doubles. He entered this season as the D-backs' number three prospect according to Baseball America and the top offensive prospect in the system.
The BayBears now have 24 active players on their roster with 0 on the disabled list.
