DAYTON, Ohio - Members of the Dayton Warbirds staff recently participated in Jim Brown's Amer-I-Can Golf Tournament at Moss Creek Golf Course that included an auction to benefit students in the Dayton area.

General Manager Jorge Ruiz headed the Warbirds group along with Hector Gonzalez and Doug Worm of the sales department. Participation by the Warbirds is a continuing effort by the National Indoor Football League team to involve themselves in charity programs.

"We had a fantastic time," said Ruiz of the Warbirds, who also were a hole sponsor during the all-day event. "Meeting Jim Brown was an honor, but we think his efforts to increase the productivity of students in the Dayton area are more significant."

Mr. Brown's Amer-I-Can was founded in 1988 by the Football Hall of Famer, actor and activist. The program seeks to alter the mindset of an individual from one of self-doubt to self-determination by teaching life management skills.

In the past nine years, the Dayton program has trained more than 1,400 students. The overall results are staggering as 38% of the students' grade point averages have gone up, there has been a 41% decrease in absences and a 40% decline in disciplinary incidents.

The auction included items such as a Jim Brown autographed Cleveland Browns helmet, autographed footballs by the 1964 Browns' NFL championship team and other signed memorabilia from the New York Giants, Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Autographed Ohio State photos were also on the block.

Ruiz said he was pleased to speak with Mr. Brown and other prominent Dayton business leaders who attended the function.

"This is a continuing effort to be involved in the community and support many of the charitable organizations we believe are important to the area," said Ruiz.

The Warbirds are gearing up for the 2006 season after finishing 8-6 in their inaugural year and making the first round of the NIFL playoffs. The team will participate in several other fund raising events for the remainder of the summer and into the fall.

The NIFL season begins in March, but the Warbirds ask that you contact them at their offices (937-458-0223) for information regarding tickets, sponsorships and advertising with the team. # For additional information about Centurion Sports Management, LLC, the NIFL, ticket purchasing information, or corporate sponsorship information, please visit our website at www.centurionsportsmanagement.com or call 863-802-1399.
