Elma, N.Y. (Friday, January 24, 2014) - U.S. Women's National Team head coach Tom Sermanni has named a roster of 24 players for a three-game, three-week road trip as the USA opens its 2014 schedule. Western New York Flash players Abby Wambach and Carli Lloyd were both called up to the team.
Sermanni will name 18 players to suit up for each of the matches.
The USA will play its first match of year on Jan. 31 against Canada at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas (9 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1). The team then travels to Florida to face Russia on Feb. 8 at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton (3:30 p.m. ET on ussoccer.com web stream), followed by a quick trip to Atlanta to play Russia again on Feb. 12 at the Georgia Dome (7:30 p.m. ET on ussoccer.com web stream).
Wambach and Lloyd represent the USA's top two scorers with 163 and 46 career goals, respectively. In the inaugural NWSL season, the pair also finished as the league's top tandem, scoring 21 goals combined.
Wambach, who became the world's all-time leading scorer in 2013, recently finished as runner-up for the 2013 FIFA Women's World Player of the Year after German-international Nadine Angerer claimed the award. The Rochester native scored 11 goals in the red, white and blue last year, including four in her record-breaking game against South Korea. Lloyd finished 2013 with seven points on three goals and one assist at the international level.
The Western New York Flash will be hosting a viewing party for the Canada game as fans are invited to Legends Sports Bar and Grille in Rochester next Friday.
