
Wallace Named Co-Special Teams Player Of The Year

AUSTIN, Texas - The Southern Indoor Football League announced today that Austin Turfcats' kick returner Darrick Wallace will share the league's 2009 Special Teams Player of The Year Award. Voting was conducted among SIFL coaches and the front offices from the five charter teams as well as league staff and a composite fan vote. Teams were not allowed to vote for their own players. Wallace shares the award with kicker Tommy Hebert of the Louisiana Swashbucklers.
Wallace received 12 out of a possible 13 votes among kick returners while recording 46 percent of the fan vote. During the regular season Wallace returned five missed field goals and two kickoffs for touchdowns. He averaged 26.7 yards per kickoff return in addition to his duties as wide receiver, where he caught 27 passes for 281 yards and six touchdowns.
Wallace will appear Monday night in the inaugural SIFL President's Cup championship game when the Austin Turfcats (10-2) take on the Louisiana Swashbucklers (11-1). Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m. from the Smuggler's Den at the Lake Charles Civic Center in Lake Charles, La. Tickets will be available at the ticket booth on game day.
