The Tuesday After: Bucs Begin Playoff Run Running
July 21, 2009 - Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL) News Release
Monday's playoff game between the Louisiana Swashbucklers and Houma Conquerors featured two quarterbacks who threw a combined 54 touchdowns during the regular season.
Of course, the Swashbucklers' 61-19 victory belonged to the running game. LA scored six of its nine touchdowns on the ground and the two touchdown passes were little more than window dressing.
Swashbuckler RB Kirt Duhon pulled off an indoor football rarity with his second straight 100-yard night, posting a league-record 114 yards on 16 carries. He had the SIFL's first 100-yard game with 105 in the regular season finale at Houma.
Not bad for a player who joined the Swashbucklers midway through the season.
``I'm just getting into shape, so it feels good to have games like this,'' Duhon said. ``We can attack teams with the run or the pass.''
LINE UP THE LINEMEN: The Swashbucklers had two linemen register touchdowns against Houma. John Paul Jones registered a score by recovering a blocked field goal for six points while Jeff Ridgle got a chance to play receiver and caught a pass from Freddie Harrison in the fourth quarter.
INSTANT CLASSIC: Not only was Austin's 56-49 victory over Acadiana the first overtime game in SIFL history, the game featured ten lead changes and was the second-highest scoring game so far this season with 105 combined points.
NOTES: Louisiana has now scored at least 60 points in its last three home games ... Mudbugs WR Anthony Parks finished with consecutive 100-yard receiving games ... LA and Austin were both 4-1 on the road this season.
