Walking May Be a Violation . . .

April 11, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Vermont Frost Heaves News Release

But now that the season is over, the Frost Heaves will be walking to save babies-and we want you to join us!

Two of Vermont's March of Dimes WalkAmerica events will take place over the weekend of April 28 and 29-on that Saturday in Burlington and on the following Sunday in Montpelier-and Bump the Moose will be leading a selection of Frost Heaves players, coaches and staff as we raise money in support of the fight against birth defects and premature births.

Check-in for the Burlington Walk begins near the Burlington Boat House at 8 a.m., with the walk going off at 9. Participants may choose to walk 2, 4.5 or 7.5 miles. Most are done by 11:30, and there will be a brunch immediately afterward at the Waterfront.

The Montpelier Walk is set for the following day. Check-in will take place at 8 a.m., and the walk will begin at 9. The route will take walkers through downtown, out to the recreation field on Elm Street, and back. Brunch will be served at Montpelier High School.

More than half a million babies are born too soon every year and many die. Another 120,000 are born with serious birth defects that can mean a lifetime of disability. That's why the March of Dimes is leading the nationwide fight to save babies from premature birth - the leading killer of newborns - and from other serious threats to infant health. In Vermont, 1 out of every 12 births is premature. The cost is emotionally and financially devastating to Vermont families.

WalkAmerica, the walk that saves babiessm, is the March of Dimes' largest single fundraiser. Since its beginnings in 1970, it has been the country's first and best-loved walking event. Vermont's WalkAmerica is taking place between April 21 and May 12 at a dozen different sites statewide.

"The babies in Vermont need our help," says Roger Clapp, the director of the Vermont Chapter of the March of Dimes. "By being a part of WalkAmerica, Vermonters can help save babies and give hope to families. We can help give all babies the gift of a healthy start.

"Last year Vermont raised an impressive $345,000 to help find the causes of premature birth. Our goal this year is to reach $400,000. Join the freshly crowned ABA champion Frost Heaves, as well as millions of compassionate people across the country and hundreds across Vermont, who support WalkAmerica every year."
