Elmira Pioneers News Release
Elmira, NY - The Elmira Pioneers and Head Coach Matt Burch continue to piece together a solid roster for the 2015 season. Adding to the framework will be two players from Wake Forest University. Freshman infielder Keegan Maronpot and red-shirt sophomore outfielder Eric Ramsey will call Dunn Field home this summer. The Demon Deacons are coached by sixth year head coach Tom Walter, who led Wake Forest back to the ACC playoffs a season ago.
Maronpot, who hails from Tarpon Springs, FL has had a nice start to his collegiate career. The 6'3" infielder attended East Lake High School where he hit .410 with 27 RBI during his senior season. Maronpot was also a part of the District 8 State Champion East Lake club. This year from the right side of the plate he is batting .263 through seven games played while picking up a double and six runs batted in. His first two collegiate home runs came in one game earlier this month against Elon. Pioneers Head Coach Matt Burch added, "We expect Keegan to come to Elmira this summer and produce offensively. He has the physical tools to be a dominant player".
Ramsey, who hails from Great Falls, VA is looking to become a valuable piece off of the bench for the Demon Deacons. Ramsey played his high school baseball at Georgetown Prep where as a junior he hit over .500 and led his team in RBIs, doubles, triples slugging percentage and hits. The 5'11" lefty has appeared in five games this season for Wake Forest reaching base on several occasions. He was also selected to the 2012 Under Armour Preseason All-America Team. Pioneers Head Coach Matt Burch added, "Eric is known to be a player that can steal a base. We look forward to seeing him defend in the outfield and get on base in front of our middle of the order players".
