West Oahu CaneFires News Release
Waikiki and West Oahu played to a 1-1 tie in ten innings this afternoon at Honolulu's Les Murakami Stadium.
Waikiki (6-7-1) struck early as first baseman Yonder Alonso drew a two-out walk in the top of the first inning and proceeded to steal second base. Todd Frazier took advantage of the runner in scoring position, and drove in Alonso with a double off the top of the wall in left-center field.
West Oahu (6-7-1) knotted the score at 1-1 in the eighth inning when Mark Hallberg ripped a double down the left field line to plate Chris Hatcher from second.
With one out in the home half of the tenth, West Oahu's Brian Friday doubled to left-center field off reliever Jeremy Papelbon. After Hatcher was intentionally walked, Papelbon got Greg Burns to strike out, and retired Hallberg on a soft grounder to second to end the game.
BeachBoys starter Mitsuo Yoshikawa tossed five scoreless innings, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out three.
Kyle Cody threw five frames of one-run ball for the CaneFires, allowing a line hit to Frazier and striking out two.
The teams have a scheduled day off tomorrow, and the coaching staffs will spend Monday on the Big Island for an around-the-island tour.
