Honolulu Sharks News Release
Kala Ka'aihue hit two home runs, including a go-ahead three-run blast in the eighth inning, to power Honolulu past North Shore, 6-3, this afternoon at Waipahu's Hans L'Orange Park.
The Sharks (10-3-1) won their fifth straight contest, and completed the three-game sweep of the Honu (4-9-1).
Ka'aihue, an Atlanta Braves prospect who attended Iolani High School in Honolulu, hit a solo home run in the second inning, and finished the afternoon with a game-high four RBIs. Teammate Shintaro Masuda finished a perfect 3-3 with an RBI while Honolulu right fielder Dominic Brown kept his batting average at .500 thanks to a 2-4 effort.
Honu catcher Jason Castro led his squad with two hits, and Chris Carter picked up his third double of the season in the losing effort.
Honolulu reliever Andy Graham improved to 2-0 despite blowing the save when he allowed a North Shore run to tie the game at 3-3 in the eighth inning. Kaimi Mead, who grew up in Honolulu and attended Hawaii Pacific University, earned the save thanks to a perfect ninth inning in which he struck out a batter.
Matt Meyer (1-1) took the loss for North Shore after allowing Ka'aihue's decisive blast in the eighth frame.
The teams have a scheduled day off tomorrow, and the coaching staffs will spend Monday on the Big Island for an around-the-island tour.
