LEOMINSTER, Mass. (Friday, March, 15, 2013) - The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs are excited to announce the signings of NE-10 Conference players Marty Dunlap and Mike Yerina for the 2013 season.

"Players from the NE-10 are very used to the style of baseball we play in the FCBL," said John Morrison, Owner of the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs, "and we know the NE-10 has some top New England talent, as illustrated by our 2012 All-Star Shane Keddy."

Dunlap, a 6-foot, 205-pound junior catcher at Franklin Pierce University, is from Dorchester, MA.

This spring Dunlap has hit .225 with a home run and 3 RBI in 11 games. While Franklin Pierce has gotten off to a slower than expected start for a ranked program, Dunlap has provided key hits in several of the teams wins, while sharing time behind the plate with All-Star Matt Walsh.

Prior to joining the Ravens, Dunlap played two seasons at Western Oklahoma State. His first year he batted an impressive.414, and proceeded to top that his sophomore with a .419 average. In doing so, he finished with five doubles, one triple, four home runs, and 23 RBI and helped lead the Pioneers to district and regional titles.

"As an alum of Franklin Pierce, I enjoy getting to see some of the best talent from the program compete in the League," said Scott Lettre, Director of Baseball Operations, "The organization is looking forward to seeing what Marty can do down at Doyle Field this summer."

Dunlap is looking forward to the summer with the Dirt Dawgs.

"I am excited and looking forward to an awesome summer. I hope to get better every day playing for the Dirt Dawgs and look forward to winning more games this year than last for the team," said Dunlap, "I am looking forward to helping the Dirt Dawgs win the FCBL Championship."

Yerina, a 6-foot-4, 180 pound freshman pitcher at Southern Connecticut University, is from Turmbull, CT. He has made two appearances for the Owls allowing 1 run in the early going.

The Trumbull High School standout was an All-Conference selection, a Connecticut Post All-Star, and a participant in the Rawlings/American Legion Futures Showcase.

Yerina is thrilled to join the Dirt Dawgs for the 2013 season.

"It's going to be really exciting for me, playing in the FBCL and meeting other players from around the country," said Yerina, "I am looking forward to helping the team win and having some fun." Yerina will get a first hand look at his summer battery mate in early April when the two programs match up at Franklin Pierce.

The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs open their season at home on June 6th at 6:35 p.m.

The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs play at historic, and newly renovated, Doyle Field in Leominster, MA and are a 2012 expansion franchise in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League.
