Wachusett Dirt Dawgs News Release
LEOMINSTER, Mass. (Wednesday, December 19, 2012) - The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs announced today they will be welcoming back Michael McGinnis, Vincent Sharkey and Jack St. Claire for the 2013 season at Doyle Field.
"As a organization, and coaching staff, we are really excited to have a few players from last year on our 2013 roster," said Nick Barese, Head Coach of the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs, "It is always helpful to have guys familiar with the environment and culture when you are trying to put together a team. Each guy brings a very important component to our team, and most importantly they are all great, high character kids, and outstanding baseball players. I couldn't be any happier to have them back."
McGinnis is a Junior at Wheaton College and hails from Mashpee, Mass. His last appearance in 2012 was very memorable. The right handed pitcher threw seven strong innings of one-hit ball against playoff bound North Shore, carrying a no-hitter threw six, in his first start for the Dirt Dawgs.
"I'm excited for the second season," said McGinnis, "I'm just really looking forward to next season."
His mentality on the mound is something Coach Barese is looking forward to having back.
"Mike is an absolute competitor and brings a bull dog mentality to the mound," said Coach Barese, "Last year he showed he has the stuff to start and be successful in this league."
Vincent Sharkey is a Sophomore at Adelphi on Long Island and resident of Lynbrook, New York. Sharkey played second base throughout the 2012 season before his summer was cut short because of injury.
"I'm disappointed about being hurt last season, but I'm hoping to play a full season and make it to the playoffs and take the Dirt Dawgs to the Championship. I'm just hoping for a great new season," said Sharkey.
Sharkey's ability to play defense, and speed on the base paths did not go unnoticed while he was with the Dirt Dawgs last season.
"Vin is a great defensive asset, controls the bat and runs the bases as well as anyone," said Coach Barese.
Jack St. Claire of Newton, Mass., is a Sophomore at Holy Cross in Worcester. St. Claire posted a .240 batting average as an outfielder for the Dirt Dawgs in 2012 including a memorable walk-off 3-run home run at Doyle in June before being sidelined with an injury.
"I'm excited to come back and play for Coach Barese this upcoming summer," said St. Claire, "I hope to help the Dirt Dawgs win the FCBL in its second season."
Coach Barese is also excited for St. Claire to be back on the team as well.
"Jack brings a great deal of versatility to our outfield and his swing plays perfectly to our field," said Coach Barese.
John Morrison, Owner of the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs, added, "These three are an outstanding start to building a winning roster for 2013. Their character on and off the field is something that the fans will be excited to see back at Doyle Field this summer, and they were instrumental in a couple of our highlight wins last year."
The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs expect their 2013 season schedule to be released in early January.
The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs play at historic, and newly renovated, Doyle Field in Leominster, MA and are a 2012 expansion franchise in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League. The 2013 season swings into action on June 6th. Season Ticket, Flex-Game Packages, and sponsorship information is available by contacting the Dirt Dawgs at 978-965-4404 or at info@dirtdawgsball.com.
