Wachusett Dirt Dawgs Announce Assistant Coaches

LEOMINSTER, Mass. (Sunday, February, 3, 2013) - The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs have announced that Christopher Logan will return to the team and will be joined by Kevin Barnaby to round out Head Coach Nick Barese's field staff for the 2013 season.

"We are excited for the return of Chris to the coaching staff for 2013," said Scott Lettre, Director of Baseball Operations, "We are also excited to have Leominster native, Kevin Barnaby, join our team for the summer season. The knowledge and experience that Chris and Kevin have about the game is a perfect fit for our team and Nick's approach."

Barese is excited about the addition of Logan and Barnaby to the coaching staff for this summer.

"I'm really excited about the coaching staff heading into the summer," said Barese, "Chris did an incredible job last year taking control of the defense, and really helped us turn things around offensively. Kevin should bring another dimension because he can work with any position on the field. Both these guys have real solid backgrounds, and I'm anxious to work with them."

Logan is currently the assistant coach for the Anna Maria Amcats in Paxton, MA. He serves as the first base coach, and mainly works with catchers and hitters. Logan is entering his fourth season with the team.

During his college years, he was a catcher for the Worcester State College Lancers. He was a two time captain, and was selected twice as an All-MASCAC player. He was also named to the Worcester State All-Decade team.

Logan is looking forward to making his returning in June.

"I am looking forward to coming back this summer and getting right to work," said Logan, "I learned a lot last summer and with the help of the good people in the organization and the other coaches this season should be a success. Toward the end of last season we were getting better every game and I believe we can carry that right into this year."

Barnaby, of Westminster, MA, is currently the assistant coach for the Fitchburg State University Falcons. This spring will be his first season with the Falcons. Previously, Kevin has been a coach for the Leominster Legion baseball program, and an assistant coach at Hudson High School, including a 2011 appearance in the state finals.

Barnaby played two years as an infielder with Worcester State, and was part of the record-setting 2002 squad that earned a MASCAC title and NCAA Regional playoff birth.

He is excited to be joining the Dirt Dawgs staff this summer.

"I am really excited to join the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs this season," said Barnaby, "It truly is a great opportunity to coach so many great players from all around the country, while learning from Nick Barese. Furthermore, I am looking forward to giving back to the Leominster baseball community. I played from Little League, all the way through Leominster Legion, and hope to be able to bring an entertaining brand of baseball to this wonderful city."

Dirt Dawgs Owner John Morrison commented, "I'm feeling really good about our on-field staff going into our second season. The team really responded to Nick and Chris at the end of 2012, and Kevin's enthusiasm and local roots are a perfect complement to the direction Nick has us headed. All involved in the organization are really excited for the summer, June can't come fast enough!"

The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs open their season at home on June 6th at 6:35 p.m.
