New Orleans VooDoo News Release
NEW ORLEANS (April 15, 2012) - The New Orleans VooDoo is teaming up with the Sport Management Association at Southeastern Louisiana University to help save our coast line. On Sunday, April 22, there will be a one mile and 5k run/walk called the "Louisiana Blue Crab Run". The race will take place around Southeastern's campus in Hammond.
The one mile race will cost $20 and the 5k is $30, and 100% of all proceeds are going to the American Wetlands Foundation. Registration after April 9th will be $25 and $35, after April 16th it will be $30 and $40. There will be a crawfish and crab boil at the end of the race along with music, autographs and photos with VooDoo players, voodoo dolls, and Mojo. The registration fee includes a ticket for the runners to eat boiled crabs and crawfish.
"We aim to be good community partners and work within our community to make New Orleans and New Orleans metro area a better place, and it is vital that we bring awareness and money to a problem that includes all of us in Louisiana," said Brandon Rizzuto, Vice President and Director of Media and Public Relations for the New Orleans VooDoo.
The America's Wetland Foundation (AWF) established in Louisiana, and working throughout the Gulf region, was founded in 2002 to alert the nation to the devastating loss of Louisiana's coastal wetlands and how their loss impacts the rest of the nation. This valuable landscape extending along Louisiana's coast is disappearing at a rate of over 16 square miles per year, or the equivalent to a football field's worth of land every hour.
"We are thrilled to have the New Orleans VooDoo help us bring awareness to a problem that affects all of us in Louisiana" said Johnny Braud, race director of "The Louisiana Blue Crab Run".
"We are very gracious for the assistance, and look forward to their evolvement in the event."
Sport Management Association at Southeastern Louisiana is putting on the race is a service and social organization whose purpose is to positively engage students interested in sport management with community, professional, and social activities.
"SMA is excited to be part of the Blue Crab Run. Helping our coastline through events like this one helps us build for future generations for Southeast Louisiana. Our coastline is vital part to our way of life in Southeast Louisiana and without it there is a big void in the way we live. We hope this event not only raises awareness for our coastline, but gets more people to step-up and help us save our way of life." said SMA President, Michael Dupre.
